Oh prachou

Hi,

 

I hear 'Oh prachou' so often when the kids watch something from the US dubbed into Thai. I know it is the translation for 'Oh my God', but I don't think I have *ever* heard anyone say this in real life. There has to be a more accurate way to translate this than just literal, right?

 

'Dtaai laew' springs to mind, although that might not work for all uses of 'Oh my God'.

My wife doesn`t use Pra Jao พระเจ้า, but instead Put toh พุดโท่ which covers the same meaning.

I believe this is a somewhat ancient expression, but well, so is she.....
