Coss
As people have said, Laos is a little like LOS 30 years ago, I'll sort out a bit of debauchery, and then we can have tours for your legions

Flashermac
Laos has better food than Thailand? Are you daft? The choice is underwhelming. How many kinds of larp do you want? Have you been to a fancy restaurant in Wiengchan, where you can have expensive boiled veggies to eat with your sticky rice and pa lah? Why do you think everyone eats baguettes for breakfast and baguette sarnies for lunch? So tell me how many Lao restaurants there are in the West. p.s. No argument on Beer Lao, but it does happen to be made by Farang brewmasters.
gobbledonk
First Thai restaurant I ever patronised was run by Laotians. Lao cook, Lao waitresses, Lao owner - he sheepishly admitted that they had a 'Thai' restaurant because 'No-one knows where Laos is !'. In that backwater town, I think he may have been right. I've been to Lao restaurants here in NZ and whilst the food does have a Isaan influence or vice versa, there is variety and and IMHO a decent range.
