Step into my Time Machine ...

For those who grew up in the 60s and 70s, the album art on a lot of new vinyl was almost as heavily anticipated as the music. Take a deep breath, people:

Somewhere around 1981, I had a flat at Bondi Beach and the walls were covered in posters of Steve Howe's art. My GF at the time found them frightening, but then she spent a lot of her time gazing at the roof.

My favourite cover art in the sixties was the cover of "5,000 Spirits Or The Layers Of The Onion" by The Incredible String Band. The cover was designed by Simon and Marijke of the Fool, the people who designed the Beatles Apple Shop in London.

Here's a link.

Budgie kicked serious butt - I recognised Howe's work straight away. Cant say that I know of any other metal bands from Cardiff, but I'm sure someone here can enlighten me.

Perhaps Farangman. He's the only Welsh guy I know, but he's a bit too young. Tom Jones may have been aware of them but, believe it or not, I'm not gonna tell you I knew Tom Jones. Everyone else, but not him.

Seriously, Budgie pre-dated the term 'heavy metal.' 'Hardcore' is I think how we put it. Before i-tunes and such, I was lucky enough to have even heard them, sitting somewhere, wasted and going, "Whoa." Sadly, I own none of their vynl. Great band.

Oh, fudge ... I thought the Time Machine would take me to a hot young Yvette Mimieux. :(

Oh, that does bring back memories, first seen her in the Time Machine (1960 version) ... she was my favourite Eloi ... I still rate that as my favourite movie, for its time it was a very good movie ... thanks for the reminder

Another Cardiff band is Man used to tour a lot with Hawkwind in the mid seventies

As for Budgie, one of the most underated bands ever, Geddy Lee (Rush) has been quoted as saying Burke Shelly was his influence as a bass playing vocalist and Metallica did a cover version of Breadfan.

My favourate track of Budgie, one I have been known to play a cover version of myself is Parents
