Thai nicknames

We've all heard the usual Nok, Lek, Moo, Poo, Oiy Noi et-al a gazillion times no doubt but a while back I came across (both senses) a lass with a name I had not heard before. Khaek, or Kaek, sounding a little like a Yorkshire accented cake, though I was roundly scolded for insufficient stress on the ae. Great girl, lots of fun I must add. Further consultation with the fine wench indicated that this is a name Thais use for folk from the sub-continent, I think in much the same way they refer to us whitey's as farang. Now I can't say I've ever met a Thai with the nickname farang! Not wanting to cause hurt or insult in any way but seems strange to me that they would use the Thai word for Indian as a nickname.

Heard any weird ones?

Hi,

Soaps tend to use extremely moronic ones. Some of the ones heard in there:

- superman

- ninja

- luuk chin (little meat balls in noodle soup)

- rot mee (bus, I think this might actually be the nick name of an actress)

- guitar

- friendship

Sanuk!

Come to think of it I have heard a few other strange ones as well, a lot from the kids at the school mine attend:

Green, Munich, Goodluck, Bambam, Joke

Still can't quite get used to calling a girl Indian though!
