Gadfly
...has been struck to end the political impasse. It can be found here. I think some of us on this board know Shawn and the old timers (like me) we'll recall the difficulties Shawn and Rodney Tusker (then at the old Far Eastern Economic Review) had under Thaksin. Shawn writes some very insightful pieces on Thailand, but I am still mulling this one offer before I comment. I do have one question: why would the military trust PT to keep its word after it comes to power? PT is already making promises everyone knows they can't keep, such as the free tablet computers. To be fair, the Democrats, on what seems to be a more modest scale, are making promises they also can't keep, but then they don't need to make this sort of major promise to the men in green. Anyway, a very interesting read. Happy election weekend.

Flashermac
For those who don't know, Thaksin brought lese majeste charges against Tasker and Crispin for reporting something that put Takky in a bad - though truthful - light. The two "offenders" were lucky not to be imprisoned for some time, then expelled from the country ... where they had long made their homes.
