Sending Money Back To Thai Partners

Whats the most you have ever heard of anyone in farang land, REGULARLY sending back to their Thai partner or girlfriend. I am aware of one case who regularly sends £1000 per calender month back to Thailand, another who sends £400 per month.

I am not talking about wealthy people here, but people with regular jobs. One case is particularly horrific.

Heard the one about the teacher who was taking a class of mature students and quizzing them about how much they needed a month to get by on. Most totted up food, accommodation, utilities a little saving and something for a treat. All in all they were coming in around 14-16k baht a month. All but the one girl, the obvious tart in the room, who stated a minimum requirement of 50k. When questioned what for her response was, 'for my shopping of course'!

Guess its a TG thing.

I guess that's an international tart thing. xmascheers.gif

I gave Ms CP 30K for her birthday once (she spent it on a party, then rang later that month to say she didn't have enough for rent ...), but there was never any illusions about where she was working or what she did. She was the one who bitched about 'having to work in the bar', not me - my attitude has always been that 'fidelity' stops at the airport, for both parties. Given that many here have wives and still indulge in P4P nightlife, I think we are hypocrites to say it should be any other way.

Even after I had made it clear that it was all over, I still got the various phone calls - tears, tantrums, half the family dying/other half in debt, yada yada. So transparent it beggars belief. The calls stopped after about 3 months - you just have to stand your ground or get another mobile phone.

Sooner or later, I guess we all wise up. We had some good times together over 2 1/2 years, but I would have been a lot smarter never to have bought her so much as a single ladydrink.

I have at least expat three friends who had to move across town to get away from a possessive BG. I've always advised people - DON'T bring them home with you. I remember when a neighbour had BGs coming to his door at all odd hours DEMANDING they be given money because they wanted to buy something or other. One sent some mo'cy boys around to his apartment to enforce her demands. Fortunately, the gal that was then living with him had enough sense to phone the police and loudly request that they come over immediately. The mo'cy boys disappeared in a flash.

Taxi drivers sometimes ask me how much I make, and they almost always start by guessing several hundred thousand

Bear in mind Flash, you are an extremely distinguished looking gent.

Most Thais, when talking income give me that "poor lad, nice but obviously doing it tough" look, and slip me a few hundred.

To put this into perspective, remember that Pheu Thai has been babbling like a brook over a 300 baht a day minimum wage, plus a minimum of 15,000 a month for every new BA grad who manages to get a government job. So what makes these morons think that their favourite BG needs 50,000 to 100,000 a month not to "go work bar"? Hell, it's a damn good month when I make 50,000 and I've got 3 university degrees. My Mrs is a PhD and is lucky to make 35-40,000. :p

I don’t want to sound harsh, but it is obvious that you and the Mrs. are in the wrong business to be making any money.

I look out my office and see 5 Thai’s. The lowest paid one is the 27 year old woman with 5 years experience we just hired for 65k a month. Our senior planner, a 35 year old guy with civil engineering degree and 10 years experience, makes 120k a month. With the OT he has been working that is probably approaching 150k. His wife also works in private school and probably makes another 50k a month. Our IT manager, 20 years on the job, worked in 4 different countries, makes about 150k a month.

My own examples above on how much Thai people make shows that many people have a narrow view of what a middle class person can make in Thailand.

Why is it that some people have to put judgments, most often judgments based on their own personal financial condition, on how much a Thai woman receives from a sponsor or even a husband? What business is of anyone else but the two people involved?

I do agree that some people seem to stretch their resources in order to make such payments, but that is their choice, and why is it the TG’s fault that he does so. It’s his choice.

TH, you are a serious killjoy, man - you know as well as I do that its a T360 pastime to cast aspersions on the idiots who give bargirls more than 1500 baht in any given month. Its also a major pastime to tell the deluded souls back in Farangland that their 'one and only' is busy banging every Farang within 20km of the BKK CBD. There all whores unless you know them personally, then they are smart businesswomen ;)

No problem with that. Education is a low paying profession in every country. But just how many Thais do you think are making the kind of money you talk about? Do you really consider your colleagues as typical Thai income earners? The average income in the US these days is around $3,000 a month. That is 90,000 baht. Many people do make more than that, but they have a specialised education in a field that pays well.

<< ... and why is it the TG’s fault that he does so. It’s his choice.>>

Frankly, I don't give a flying fish if people want to give a BG one million baht a month. But we are talking about women DELIBERATELY LYING to get a very good income from some poor fool who thinks he is doing some good. To me that puts it in a slightly different light. I consider them similar to the Nigerian letter writers. One is just as dishonest as the other. If someone lied to you in your business, would you think it is all right.

Hi,

On top of what Flashermac already pointed out, the people you mentioned probably work their ass of (and have done so for years to get where they are at now). The bargirls (and 'GTG's playing the field) would almost certainly never be able to reach these kinds of monthly amounts.

I have no real problem with guys sending stupid amounts of money to girls (as you said, their business), although it does cause some issues both for other girls and other guys. Talking of peer-pressure / jealousy, "Her boyfriend is sending her 50K/month, why can't you do the same?" kind of stuff.

(And no, luckily I don't have that issue myself, my wife knows what our financial situation is and that I take good care of her :) )

Sanuk!
