Increasing Traffic

I would recommend regular mailings with links to interesting posts (the outside LOS sub forum aside). I think many members who are not that much into LOS might just have forgotten about the board or thought that it had closed, when they tried to enter during the many downtimes before installing the new forum software...

It might be even possible to generate those emails automatically, like every second month or so.

Also I would do one initial and more personal mailing in regard to moving to new software, photo forums, contests, e.g. - after the questions in this thread had been decided.

A regular news letter, chatty and informative rather than just a list of posts would work. I've seen them considerably increase traffic elsewhere.

I will agree with Coss on this one. The global economic downturn has affected lots of sites. This is not the only one that has seen reduced traffic. I would consider allowing TR's to post on the main page for awhile before moving them.

You may not want to get cozy with FB...they have a habit of violating privacy. If I even got a hint that my privacy was affected I would beat feet.

Hi,

While I agree on the newsletter, it is not easy to do a good one. Just sending out a few links every couple weeks is not enough I think (I get a few of those from time to time and never even bother looking at them anymore, let alone go back to the forum).

So, it would need a bit of text, for example some forum news. I could probably do one of those when we *have* news, but there would be long periods without any news, and then what do I sent out?

I have sent out several emails already (to different people), the latest round just yesterday, and that has resulted in some people coming back to the board or at least replying saying that they have lost interest in Thailand.

It probably won't be a bad idea to send out a (personal) email to all board members once we have the photo contest sorted. The email could then be an invitation to come visit the new forum and gallery and participate in the contest.

Email bounce rate is quite high unfortunately, of the 67 emails I sent out yesterday 26 bounced; that's almost 40% :(

Hi,

Oh, and regarding Facebook, I fully understand and do not trust them at all myself. If I do the Facebook integration it would obviously be voluntary use. I think you would have to link your account to FB in order for things to work, no linking of accounts no connection.

Edit: Looks like the FB link sharing already works without any connection. You just get a login screen from FB and after logging in you can share the link on FB. Doesn't look like anything gets linked here.

Since I only go for LOS for to see Thai culture, Thai food, e.g smirk.gif, I wouldn't dare to connect my FB account to Thai360. ph34r.gif

I don't know if Ajarn is the biggest Thai-based board (anyone ?), but they clearly have plenty of people who:

a. want to work in Thailand

b. do work in Thailand

c. have assorted things to bitch about re working in Thailand

Stick said in a recent weekly blog entry that he thinks increasing numbers of expats will earn their income from websites, but I can only assume he meant websites that weren't specifically about Thai nightlife : seems to be enough of those. I'm sure there are plenty selling gear they found at Chatuchak, and the old standbys of porn and gambling are obvious choices for those willing to run a few risks.

I'm all for increasing membership, but hopefully it will be less of a bitch session than many of the Ajarn threads.
