YimSiam
I think all Pilipinas passport include a "not valid for Iraq and Afghanistan" stamp - not to say there aren't a lot of them in those countries, but I think there is a stamp... Countries controlling the movement of adults into and out of their own country is appalling, reeks of the attitude you find in lots of these recently-feudal places across SE Asia: the little people are nothing more than a resource to be controlled and exploited by their overlords, incapable and undeserving of autonomy and real rights. Kindergarten-level Buddhism and RC hierarchies then help to preserve the structure - clergy basically a bunch of guys too lazy to get a job, hired and dressed in robes by the wealthy to remind the little people of their worthlessness. Myanmar, Thailand, Philippines - pretty on the surface, but ugly somewhere underneath. YimSiam
bust
Any exit from Fili is a long drawn out process it seems if you are female. Have heard of the financial reason preventing the exit and also the spouse one. One way around it is to apply through the Philippino Embassy in Bangkok and do a formal invitiation. Cost is about 2000 baht and takes 5-7 days. Visas for Fili girls are a nightmare. Know one girl who waited over a year for her work visa after she signed her employment contract in Dubai. think_too_mut
The Phillipnes have the largest influx of remmitances sent back from their expats around the world. Perhaps 10% of their GDP. While having that, they see lots of problems with their citizens, especially women, being abused. Mostly, not their fault (think of men, construction workers in the Middle East). Some other countries have that too: Ukraine, Moldavia, Ghana, even Russia, to name a few. Is it a freedom their governments don't limit or carelesness about their citizens who are often tricked and abused? When it comes to the government's attention, there must be some material to that.
