It was bound to happen. A few disillusioned young society dropouts who feel they are owed everything for the sole reason that they are pumping air, decide to "protest" whatever the flavor of the month is concocted. Soon, they are joined by less peaceful advocates of anarchy (those seen in the crowds with their faces covered which, incidentally, is a great way for police sharpshooters to decide how to ration their bullets).

This article relates to Italy, but could very well be in a number of socialist European countries. http://news.yahoo.com/rioters-hijack-rome-protests-police-fire-tear-gas-192119627.html

Reminds us of the Tea Party folks, right? ;)

Comment in a German magazine: 99% stayed at home.

Anyway, there is huge difference between Germany as rich industrialized country with _some_ social elements like public health care, social security e.g., and a third world country like the USA - third world in regard to distribution of wealth and access to food.

Viewed comparatively, U.S. income inequality is even worse than you might expect.

Income inequality can be measured and compared using something called the Gini coefficient, a century-old formula that measures national economies on a scale from 0.00 to 0.50, with 0.50 being the most unequal.

Looking for the other gives you a quick sense of countries with comparable income inequality, and it's an unflattering list: Cameroon, Madagascar, Rwanda, Uganda, Ecuador. A number are currently embroiled in or just emerging from deeply destabilizing conflicts, some of them linked to income inequality: Mexico, Côte d'Ivoire, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Serbia.

Perhaps most damning is China, significantly more equal than the U.S. with a Gini coefficient of 0.415, where the severe income gap has been a source of worsening political instability for almost 20 years. Leagues ahead of the U.S. on income inequality is India

The Atlantic

And a further damning comparison to China: in the latest Gallup poll shows that 19% of US Americans don't have enough money to buy food for themselves and their family. WHILE in China it is only 6% of the people which have to go hungry.

And it is getting worse.

Statistcs show that the US lower and middle class gets more poor every year, while the wealth of the Chinese increasing.

The Tea Party people might not be aware of it, but they are just pawns in the game of big money and a tool for to further increase the wealth of the upper 10% in the USA.

The "Tea Party" is just a poor substitute for the Dems and Repubs. They get some media attention but have little to offer, IMO.

No, they were able to to move the whole political establishment in the USA to right. And they radicalized and poisoned the whole political discourse. Voices of reason and moderates of all colors are losing their power and their seats. Political adversaries suddenly are becoming "a threat to the nation" or are becoming simply "evil" (see HH on Obama). A strange mix of Christian apocalyptic fear is being mixed with cold war ideology. But the difference to the 60s is, that the Tea Party sees not forces outside the country as the main enemy but the Dems and Obama - even though the Dems have probably never been so close to the Reps like today.

Malarkey! That means one in 5 Americans is living on dirt and worms. What KIND of food can't they afford?

Of course, if you figure in the 16% of black folks who are unemployed, plus places like that California city where unemployment is 80%, you are going to get some pretty shocking figures. :(

Whether the numbers are accurate or not one thing we can all agree on is that the people are suffering. This link (HH note its a commie site...lol...but facts are facts) shows that corporate profits have hit record highs in these tough economic times but unemployment remains high. Why is that? I believe the money we gave to bail out some of these companies with the unsaid agreement that once they become solvent they will go back to hiring folks is not happening. Corporatioins are hoarding cash. Making money and not trying to hire and spend. Big bonuses are making a comeback as well. The stocks go down at times and not because they aren't making money. Its a reflection of the larger economy. There is no faith in the economy in the near future and even long term.

The uber rich are also much richer. The Republican ideology that if we give these rich folks and big corporations less taxes and regulations and that they will hire more people and 'create' jobs doesn't seem to be so. Companies and the super rich have been getting richer since the '08 crisis and unemployment has gone up. Why is that? Its just common sense to me that people don't start businesses to hire people. Its to make money. The perfect business model is oen where you don't need to hire someone. If any of you have a business the last thing you want to do is hire someone. Its logical. Its not only a big expense but you run the risk of that person filing a lawsuit, being lazy, etc. If companies could automate what a worker does they'd do it in a shot because you don't have to give vacation to a machine, pay unemployment, 401(k), get a lawsuit filed against you for whatever reason, etc. The jobs in this economy has to come from the government in the form of infrastructure.

That's not correct. The income gab between lower and middle class is increasing since the 80s already. The Ueber rich are getting more rich since 30 years, while the income of the middle/lower class is going down since 30years. Actually, the income of blue collar worker is back to the level of the 1970s.

For two decades the middle/lower class financed its standard of living through loans and the ever increasing a finally highly inflated value of their properties prices. When the bubble burst it became apparent that they lived a lie.

The Tea Party was the first reaction to the changed economy (and it's a reaction to the changed demography, that's why it is mostly older white men). Strangely the Tea Party takes millions of USD from and is based on the organizational support by the people who fucked them. Must be a kind of Stockholm Syndrome.

Slowly it begins to dawn to _some_ US people that they of been fucked for decades by the big corps and compliant governments.

One main cause for the USA to have the middle class disappear is that they have been subject to a hidden tax, called inflation! The politicians in DC know that if they tried to run the USA on a balanced budget they would have to raise taxes to pay for all the pork barrel projects but to raise taxes is instant death for any politicians so instead they have the Federal Reserve turn on the printing press and dilute the US money supply with fiat paper money, causing the US dollar to go down in value, causing the buying power of the US dollar to go down.

Don't believe this, compare the buying power of gold and the USA today to what it was say in 1970...the US dollar buys like 5% of what it did in 1970...5% just a guess as I am too lazy to google the actual numbers...

Precisely why the Demoncraps are against a balanced budget amendment and why Obama and his thieves want to continue to hike the debt ceiling. The Demoncraps know that a huge percentage of voters don't pay any income tax, so, to them, attempting to raise federal taxes is just a way of buying votes at the expense of those who do pay taxes. Tax increases are not a "third rail" for many Demoncrap politicians. In California, budget-busting Demoncrap legislators have ruled the State for several decades. They get elected and re-elected without any penalty. Yet, those same demoncraps have driven the state to the edge of bankruptcy by "tax, spend, and borrow" approaches to running the state government. In predictable fashion, the Demoncraps blame the T Party for economic woes. That would be a laugh, but laughing at those who are retarded is cruel. Have you ever heard Obama take the blame for anything? Anything? He's a Marxist, and the T Pary are perveyors of garlic and carry crosses in their parades. Sure, he isn't going to like them. The T Party is the greatest thing to happen to this country in the new century, and it's postive effects on the U.S. political landscape is applauded here. They are true patriots and upholders of the Constitution.

I guarantee you the Republican heiarchy don't want a balanced budget amendment. They'll give lip service to it but they don't want it and if there is one the first thing they'll do is look for ways to work around it.

I recall in the '90s when the Republicans controlled congress the new, young idealistic, ideologically sound new Republican congresspersons fought the old guard who were bought and paid for.

A blanced budget amendment is all well and good but the amount of massive spending on the infrastructure that is needed can't be done right now on a balanced budget. Targeted cuts in spending must and should occur however, it won't be enough possibly. Bringing home the troops and massive cuts in defense has to happen as well. I don't go for across the board cuts. Social security, the VA and other areas will have more harm than good if they get a cut. Cutting waste where it can be cut is always a good thing.
