Steve Posted November 20, 2011 Report Share Posted November 20, 2011 By most accounts the Greeks were wreckless with how they ran things and the big problem I see in the EU is that not all countries share the same economic philosophy. The Germans have been conservative financially ever since the hyper inflation post WW1 years of the 1920s. They love to use terms like "German Tanks", "Blitz-Krieg", e.g. in their headlines in any news related to Germany - while the US people have no idea of the German history anyway. Just try to explain to an American that West Berlin was located in heart of communist East Germany and that West Berlin was not the capital of West Germany, while East Berlin was the capital of East Germany. But that the capital of West Germany was the tiny city of Bonn, located in West Germany and that today the capital of whole Germany is Berlin, located in eastern Germany, but that there is no West- nor East Germany anymore. The same banks that don't want to accept defaults on 50% of Greek debt wont be any happier if this drags on for another 12 months and that figure is closer to 100%.
