Top 10 Guitartists Of All Time

Steve

Recommended Posts

These 'lists' always annoy me - technically, I'm sure some obscure classical guitarist is 'better' than everyone on that list, but I tend to gravitate to the people who make music I actually enjoy, regardless of whether they are considered 'guitar gods'. At a certain level, a lot of it is just showmanship.

My personal list, in no particular order, would have names like this:

John Petrucci

Ted Nugent (yep, Ole Ted ..)

Steve Vai

Joe Satriani (yep, cliched, but there ya have it..)

Ritchie Blackmore

John Brewster (Oz band, The Angels)

Of course, Thailand isnt short of people who can 'wield an axe' ...

In no particular order:

Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser (Blue Oyster Cult)

Jeff "Skunk" Baxter (session guitarist and former member of Steely Dan and Doobie Brothers who played on more records of various artists than you can imagine)

Steve Howe

John Scofield (jazz)

Jimmy Page

Frank Zappa

Les Paul

Tony Rice (bluegrass)

Johnny Marr (not a flashy soloist but still a master of the instrument)

Joe Walsh (also not flashy, but in his heyday--read: pre-Eagles!--a master of tasteful, emotional playing)

rory gallaher was a fine guitarist.

had a couple of his records and then saw him live in a small tent at a festival my city hosts every year about a year or two before his death.

not saying he was one of the greatest but great to see a legend up close and personal.

ticket bought for me by a hospital consultant who became a great friend.

last i heard he was head of the BMA/A/E board in the UK.
