Nasiadai
I got very sad and gloomy news. Mekhong Kurt (Kurt Francis) is dead. He died - I think in August 2012 - at home in Texas. One day he turned yellow and he was admitted to the hospital. His sister and mother came over from the States and brought him home to Texas where he died about one week later. Mekhong Kurt was the MASTER of the SQUARONIANS for more than 20 years. He lived at the Washington Square, he lived in the bars, he knew every girl and every land lord. I became aquainted with him - I think - in 1999. One day I was looking for an alternative to the usual day-time-fun-locations like Biergarten Soi 7 etc. I decided to go to Washington Square and there I met him. Was it in the Silver Dollar or Texas Lone Star or the Prince of Wales? I cannot remember. We had a beer together and made friendship. It was very difficult for me to understand his broad, heavy Texan accent. But nevertheless we got on well together. I hope that our Lord will be merciful with him. gobbledonk
Sorry to hear that - I believe I was introduced to him in 2008. At the time, I didn't realise his legendary status - just another old bloke in a bar. RIP.
gobbledonk
no need to park anymore as there ain't no bar anymore! No - they parked their cars their DURING THE DAY while they worked nearby. Come dusk and a whole other 'shift' moved into the square.

Flashermac
He got so ill that he was sent home against his wishes. He only lasted a few days in the States and checked out about 25 September.
kamui
He got so ill that he was sent home against his wishes. He only lasted a few days in the States and checked out about 25 September. Even though I never met him, I think it's not fair the they forced him to return to the West for to die. I guess he would have been more happy in his last days with his pals and some Thai nurses around him...
The_Munchmaster
The 'cinema / cabaret / Sportsmans Bar' building in the center of WS is now demolished leaving just the two structures on either side of it. The original part of Silver Dollar is still standing though and can be seen in the background.
