The Best Restaurant In Thailand?

elef

Recommended Posts

I'm planning my first travel to Thailand in almost 4 years. I know I want to spend some days in Bangkok and stay in Oriental.

So my choice for restaurant is Normandy - I've met the chef - I think me and GF spoke 30 minutes with him. It's expensive however (more than 30 kBaht 5 years ago for 2) so I want some more recommendations of gourmet restaurants in BKK, Phuket, Ranong, Hua Hin and Pattaya.

BKK: if you like french, Aubergine is good and very reasonable priced; of course not in the league of Le Normandie; then there are a couple of good italians like Zanotti, Gianni, Biscotti (Four Seasons) and more simple ones but with good food like Bacco, Beccofino, Enoteca, Rossano or if you like Italian food nouvelle cuisine style go to Angelini (in Shangri-La hotel close to the Oriental)

outside Bangkok you will not find anything that is even in the next league below Le Normandie but a couple of good thai restaurants if you venture outside of the main tourist stream

in Ranong (or do you mean Rayong?) you will even not find any eatable western food

Ranong HT, I've just been one time in Rayong - the smell and pollution was worse than in BKK so I told my thai friends to drive to Sattahip instead. (Yes, I know there're at least 2 swedish companies there - Ikea and Tetra Pak. But also oil companies...)

why would you go to Ranong? well I have been there while driving to/from Phuket. 2 totally worn down large old hotels, one at main road close to the hot springs and one at the sea. food? well some with good thai food, but forget about western food. yes and there is a small town a couple of kilometers towards Chumphorn with the best Salapows (filled buns) of the world; the main road is full of vendors selling them

Tinidee Hotel is good - especially for me, I'm always upgraded and get a big discount. This hotel has changed names several times and was from the start (?) a sister of Oriental in BKK.

Before Ranong had a lot of visa runs, now just the normal divers and gamblers going to the Andaman Casino...

In Ranong you can buy clothes much cheaper than Pratunam market (cheapest place in BKK I think). And police there never heard of restrictions of selling alcohol - certain hours or elections...

Western restaurants no, but at least night clubs and many new burmese girls who soon will go work in bars in Phuket.

there are still visa runs from guys living/working in Phuket and Khao Lak. It is the closest spot to do from there.

what makes you think that this Tinidee hotel is related to the Oriental? maybe really the only reasonable hotel to stay in Ranong as the other two I stayed once were old, worn down and completely deserted

The name before was Royal Princess Hotel (Dusit Group later but not from the start I think), I think I remember there was an other name before that. It was the manager of Oriental in BKK who recommended it as their sister hotel.

I think I paid 1400 baht for a suite (maybe minisuite) 4 years ago.
