gobbledonk
Just went to xhamster looking for some pR0n, and the in-your-face banner ad was for 'grannyrooting.com' - clearly, they look at your IP and decide you come from a country where people know what 'rooting' means. Apparently I can hook up with a granny and root her tonite - feet, stop dancing ..... Kill me. Now.
radioman
I just tried that but the banner ad said fit n' hot Thai girls. So I guess that in addition to your location they can see other information that determines your best chance demographic.
gobbledonk
Damn - how could they possibly know that I want to root grannies AND Thai women ? It would appear that those emails warning me that my computer was transmitting an IP address were legit .............. Who knew that they could glean so much from 255.255.255.0 ? Mekong
Who knew that they could glean so much from 255.255.255.0 ? A basic subnet address which does not hide ones IP.
gobbledonk
It was an attempt at humour - I havent seen an IP address yet that indicates that the owner of the node at that address has a particular interest in granny porn. Still, better that than to be confronted with something for guys who want to date ladyboys. Oh, wait ...

Agreed your subnet does not, but your actual IP addy can tie you down to the state you are posting from (I mean as in living not mental) and advertising is based on known habits of the majority of the users habits within a known area. I am no way at all accusing you of being a granny shagger but it appears it is a trait of the state you now live in. Funny you mention "ladyboy" ads, I do notice that when I am online mobile around Silom Area I tend to get Banner Ads from this site for Ladyboy sites yet when at home not to far away I notice ads for GTG Thailand more predominant. I only go to Patpong for the smoke oven pizza at Madrid bar, honest Guv!

While IN THEORY the packets could go in all kinds of directions, in practice the first few hops from your computer will tie your location down pretty closely. Come to the Dark Side
I got no banner add at all, I must be dead?
gobbledonk
I believe that is, in fact, an accepted clinical test for morbidity - no banner ad when you log into T360. It couldnt be any worse than the method used in this case: http://www.thecourier.com.au/news/local/news/general/towie-tells-of-man-left-for-dead-after-bacchus-marsh-crash/2509435.aspx “When he was under the plastic, it became evident that his feet were movingâ€.
