Not new Cav,

Same shit happened to me just over a year ago when I decided to come and fight my ground. On the immigration card I put down my Non-Imm O visa expecting 90 days but the visa was due to expire in 18 days and that is all they gave me. I would have been better off not declaring the visa and taking the 30 day permission to stay stamp instead.

It meant I had to go to Singapore and apply for a tourist visa far sooner than expected, now remember my soon to be ex hopefully kicked my out lock stock and barrel, I literally arrived back in Bangkok with a suitcase and my laptop and checked into a hotel. 18 days gave me very little time to find an apartment, get Cable and Internet set up and furnish the place before I went to Singapore.

The Thai embassy in Singapore were hard nosed, I applied for my tourist visa explaining I will be changing it to business visa when back in Thailand, they did not accept this and demanded that I had a ticket for onward travel. Now even a couple of years ago I would have exploded but I was actually Jai Yen, I needed a ticket fast, visa applications at Thai Embassy Singapore are only open between 9:30AM and Mid day it was already 10:15.

Then I remembered from the previous evening whilst escorting a lady home from Orchid Towers (I am so polite) she pointed out a Travel Agents that many of the girls there used so off I went. Booked a ticket BKK to Siem Reap, the closest thing that came to mind, for 60 days time then back to the Thai Embassy just in time.

Now my application was acceptable and the visa was issued, I still have that unused ticket in a drawer somewhere. This is Thailand, one learns to adapt to the rule changes or it would drive you mad.

You have your retirement visa (you old fart) as long as you have had the required 800K deposited in a Thai bank for previous 3 months you will have no problem with applying for an additional 12 months "Extension to Stay" at Chaeng Wattana, in fact for a thousand baht you could find an agent who would do it for you saving you the hassle of traveling up there.

Welcome home mate!

Mekong,

As of last year on a Non-imm O I could step out over a border (land border crossing, the day before my visa expired for the year), and get a 90 day extension past the 12 months for a year long O visa. Are you guys saying that has changed? I used to be able to get 15 months in reality on a 12 month 1 year marriage visa. Changed now? (I do not extend my visa here, but get a 1 year O marriage visa each year in the states while I am home visiting family and friends each year.)

I am not sure if things have changed, I was previously under the "Corporate Umbrella" and they took care of my Non-Imm B for me, on my previous non-imm O it expired when I was overseas but since I was working away and back in Thailand for 18-20 days at a time I was OK with the 30 "Permission to Stay" which is granted on arrival to passport holders of 50 or so countries. I renewed my non-imm O around March 2010 by going down to Sillypore then applying for my 12 months extension to stay at Chaeng Wattana 90 days later. It was when I returned in May 2011 that I was stamped until expiry date of the visa and not the 90 days I expected.

It is the first time I have come back to Thailand "Under my own steam" with less than 90 days remaining on a visa so I cannot comment on how things operated before.

Think my last non im B visa was issued around 2002. Ever since then it's just been extended 12 months at a time matching the work permit and then the re-entry permit to match that.

A first this year was needing a doctors cert to state I didn't have elephantitis, syphillis or a mental disorder. Went to the local hospital and the doc wanted to poke prod measure and check.Told him no bother just sign the paper, ok says he 200 baht. Oh well.

More pointless paperwork.

You mean expiry date of your extension to stay as stated on your re-entry permit, the visa expiry date was presumably different, or...?

Yeah, pedantic I know but it gets confoosin otherwise.

Funny, reminds me of the medical certificate I got for my non-imm B last year.

I went to hospital last year with chest pains, an old cracked rib that was playing up again, they gave me the full monty x-rays and blood tests and that is when I was diagnosed with HBV. OK time to stop drinking, I stopped too quick the chemical imbalance my body suffered triggered a heart seizure so once over that (The only time a physician has told me to drink) I checked into detox to come off it in a controlled manner.

Less than a month after detox I needed my medical for my non-imm B / WP so I went back to same hospital

Any Diseases NO

Heart Condition NO

Addictions NO

Total Cost 0 THB

In 2010, immigration added a check for Stage 3 syphilis to the medical form. The only check for that is blood test. Immigration does not required the results of the test to be attached and still accepts the signed off form alone. Some clinics and all hospitals will not sign the form with the blood test. You can still get many of the small independent clinics to sign off without the blood test.

Did you even read my post? If you got the extension, your "Visa" is meaningless. They will only stamp you in until the date on the re-entry permit.

If indeed you are entering on a visa and getting 90 day stamps, all reports are they will still give 90 days regardless of the expiry date of the visa (which in not the re-entry permit).

is this a multiple entry visa? do they also have retirement visa that work like this?

HT,

Yes, multiple entry O visa based on marriage to a Thai. Can come and go as I please as often as I like for a year.

Dunno about the retiree visa as I've never had the need to date to get one or inquire as to what it entails and gives one.
