whcouncill
What good hotels are in the Soi Arab area? Is Pinnacle Sukhumvit Inn good? What about apartments in Soi Arab? Anyone here know about the Soi Arab area and maybe renting an apt from there? Where would I go to find apts available in that area on the net? gobbledonk
maybe the where, when and how much is applicable here, but for me its mainly the WHY ? Yup - stayed down there once in the mistaken belief that I was 'saving beer money' or somesuch. Trust me - it just isnt worth it. Forget the Arabs - had no particular problems with them - its just one very dumpy part of town. As Flash said in a post a while back, the Grace Hotel was a drawcard somewhere around 1985 (75 ?), but that is a very long time ago. Other than proximity to the hospital - and some reasonable food - I cant think of anything to recommend Soi Arab over other parts of Suk. Throw in the Nigerian invasion and its a Soi best avoided. Flashermac
If you like Middle Eastern food, it is great. Other than that ... well, it is nicknamed the Gaza Strip for a reason. The Grace Hotel goes back to the VN War days. The coffee shop was part of the freelancer troika, along with the Thermae and the Thai Yonok. But the sons of the prophet took over the Grace 30 years ago. Infidels are tolerated, but not especially welcomed.

BelgianBoy
and in which restaurant did you have dinner! 2 places I recommend : Al Ferdos (sp?) on the corner with the little subsoi between soi 5 and soi 3/1, nice terrace, outside kitchen for bread and grill. Other place is on soi 2, in the basement of the shopping centre on the corner with Suck&vomit, called Beirut, fabulous place, Enjoy.
