Flashermac
Of course the keel gets mentioned, since it is what made the difference. In his 3 previous challenges Bond had only managed to win 1 race out of 13. Since then that keel is standard on all racing yachts, unless specifically banned. It was a major technological advance. Flashermac
I did too. And as I said, you can see from the catarmaran that it is a completely different race from what it once was (coffee or no coffee).
Coss
So I guess the Aprilfoolery, that was the coffee machine on board, was so subtle, that the widely unknown dry wit the Kiwis identify with, had no effect on the readers..... But I join in the discussion about the boats and tech used. The Cats are state of the art, but foiling them? 72ft of carbon fibre and testosterone fuelled blokes all balanced on one leeward foil? Farckin amazing stunt this. When the Moth class started foiling a long time ago, it was considered a really tricky thing to do, akin to balancing on a skate board that was like a ruler on edge, a game for nimble 14 yr old boys. So when these huge cats started foiling, it was like a leap into the future. And this unlikely looking device does 65 knots!
Flashermac
Oh, the coffee machine was meant to be funny. I kept thinking I must be missing something. I was ... the joke.
radioman
The real joke of course is that coffee really is a serious business
