I guess it should be pointed out that if at any point in a hip ect, operation the MDs screw up and cut of your leg, paralise you, put the hip in the wrong side.... in BKK it is just som na na. There is nothing to be said but sorry.

I'm not sure that this justifies like a 30x price tag though.

For comparison, my father had that in the mid 90s in the USA. One was $95,000 (us) as I recall.

In USA, the trick is to have a couple of group insurance coverages, preferably from groups like Utility Companies, Large Unions, Federal Government, etc.. The cost of insurance itself could be a few thousand dollars per year but almost all medical expenses would be covered by the coverages.

Try the cost of US insurance $1000++ a month! for a decent coverage!!

No worries, the cost will go up next year with Obamacare...

It's much less if you get a subsidized one through a large, established employer. We pay about $600 per month for three (subsidized) health insurance coverages that effectively pay for almost all medical costs.

FYI: I had full Blue Cross / Blue Shield for only $160/month ($500 deductible & $20 copay for meds) when I was paying it myself in 2006 during my brief contractor gig. So I dont know where you get $1k/mo from unless you are figuring in over 60years old or some pre-existing condition like cancer or MS or something.

Like ZZZ says, with my current job I pay about $24 a month for full no-deductible $20 co-pay for meds Ins through Blue Cross. I figure it would be more if I had dependents.

(Dont know why the $20 co-pay is always on there.)

Myself and wife at the time, I was unemployed, thus now way to get subsidized: $1400/month!

United Health Care.

The wife had a pre-existing illness, so I tried to get the policy that Illinois offered to cover such a

situation...you pay for six months, nothing covered on the pre-existing illness during that first six

months and then they would pay.

Cost: $1200/month!

I had a do/die policy, $10,000 deductible, $300/month, about 2008.

Then there are limits to the max they will pay out.

My cousin, she pays $300/month for the extra coverage for what Medicare doesn't pay. This is today!!

If you are over 50, which you are not, the prices are silly money!

Your numbers are waaaaaaaaaaay off and out of date.

I dont know Mike, here is the quote I just got. I made myself born in 1960, so over 50, and added dental. $5k deductible is a bit steep though, I grant you, but not "waaaaaaaaaay off." You can do one yourself via this link:

For a family of 6, I checked two years ago and found a Blue Cross policy at just under $400. It had a $10,000 deductible and a $20 co-pay (after spending a certain amount on doctor visits). I was 57 at the time, my wife 37 and 4 kids. I passed on the insurance. I've gone almost 40 years without health insurance, so its no big deal to me but having only my 5 year old on Kansas medicaid wasn't my choice. My 22 year old step daughter ran up a $10,000 hospital bill for a 2.5 hours stay in the emergency room for kidney stones. The health insurance that had the $10,000 deductible would have been of no help there. For decent health insurance, it would cost $1,200 to 1,500 a month. I already pay $800 for groceries, a mortgage, utilities, gas payment for the 2 vehicles (and insurance) and $190 a month for pre school for the 5 year old. I have no idea if I will be able to afford Obamacare but expect a hefty subsidy to help pay for it.
