A few years ago I had major dental work done, hey I am English what do you expect, 3 molars full root canal so that is 12 to begin with plus a few more, in a perverse way I started to enjoy it :p

My Dentist was a Husband and Wife team, both ex-Chula then Australia, their practice is next to Chula Uni, Root Canals, Crowns, Implants and laminates it took about 9 months overall.

Jai Rai I remember the first time I went to the dentist in LOS I made appointments with 3 dentist. Silom Dental some other place and the last was Thantakit. First two appointments were hands in mouth imeadiately blah blah blah needed this and that and one of them had already booked me in, to begin the implants that evening.

Thantakit on the other hand did a full medical history before they even sat me in the chair. That is what won me over. I do agree they are a little mor expensive but I have never had a single problem with the work and don't mind paying for peace of mind. They also have a free pick-up and return if you stay in an Amari which I do when I am in town.

Hey Bust, thanks for the recommendation. Appreciate, serious. I ended up going with Dental Design because they could start the same day as luck would have it (the Endodontist only comes a couple times a week). The first place I went was Asavanant at Thong Lor, they wanted about 50k for the single root canal but couldn't do it till the specialist was there a couple days later. (The 50k was all in including crown). Asavanant was interesting. They had a concierge meet me at the door and walk me around, pluch couches and recliners while you wait. My dentist spoke perfect English. They took one x-ray and made a prognosis (root canal). The price through me off a bit as it's almost the same as the US without health insurance. Plus my dentist looked like he was 22 years old and was flashing a lot of gold jewelry, which I thought was tacky.

Next was Dental Design, they took several x-rays and were ready to go that day. The girls taking the x-rays were kinda goofy but they did professional work and looked at everything. The dentist was educated at UCLA, and whatever reservations people may have about American HealthCare (eg it's money driven and many people are left out of the cold), I have a lot of respect for the program at UCLA as I personally know two people who were quite serious and washed out due to the rigors of the program.

So fuck it, I went with them. First part of the root canal done. Doctor was patient and did thorough job. No pain. I'll be back to finish it up next week, cost considerably less than Asavanant. Pleasantly surprised to tell you the truth as they diagnosed several other minor issues and suggested I address, but with no pressure or cheesy sales pitch.

Heard many good things about Thantakit too and that would've likely been my next choice.

Anyway will follow up as this wraps up. I'm happy now to be out of pain, to the say the least.

Hence the beauty of this board that gets overlooked at times during squabbles. A lot of competent expats with real life experience on the ground - and not speaking out their ass like you find in other places.

After a week of no sleep and misery I'm just chilling today. No puu-ying, just watching Game of Thrones and eating my favorite frozen meals from 7 (panaeng curry).

Good input in this thread. I doubt I'll ever meet most of you, but on the chance that I do - you better believe the beer is on me.

KS and Flash can vouch for that.

Take care.

I split a molar years ago, chomped down on something and YEOW! Broke the tooth in half, no way to save it.

If it's infected, knock of the booze and take amoxicillin. :p

Don't drink to excess like I used to Flash. Well, maybe sometimes.

But knock it off? That ain't never gonna happen. Period.

Just ask the bartender if you think I lie.

:)

Thanks Flash.

About 10 years ago, over several visits, I had 3 inlays and 2 crowns done at Dental Design done and have no complaints about their work. I did find it amusing that the first inlay that they did wasn't the one that I was expecting (and the tooth that needed it the most) but the tooth next to it. On another visit, they were very careful in recommending that a crown be porcelain and not gold, for aesthetics. The next visit, they crowned the tooth next to it (closer to the center of my mouth and more visible) and did it in gold. Their work is first rate. I hope their work lasts at least another 10 years. At that point, I'll go thai and have my bothersome teeth pulled.

  • 3 weeks later...

Epilogue: last visit to Dental Design was today. Had two root canals done there and four fillings (have always took care of the front teeth but evidently was a little negligent with those more important in the back).

Have no criticism whatsoever. It was a good recommendation and the work done was better than that done by my dentist (on a health plan) in the states. No bullshit. The physicians were meticulous and took their time (which annoyed me initially until I experienced the results). Very professional place.

Thanks boys. This alone made my presence on this board worth it.

btw - a little misleading. Have to go back for f/u but major procedures finished. They're a little skimpy on pain meds post procedure but that can be resolved simply with a little whisky and some helpers.

Not that I, a God fearing Christian man, would even consider alcohol.
