Just for kicks, I looked up the fare for DFW->BKK roundtrip on UAL. It was $1525 fare + $125.80 tax/fee. So that $400 you see is probably the fuel surcharge you see on other airlines. In the USA the advertised fare has to include the fuel surcharge.
