Masterplan Map For Bkk Public Transport

The Dutch designed a masterplan for Bangkok to prevent just that. Alas they are going with the Thaksin lets fix it in 5 year plan.

That notwithstanding, They are quite far on some areas. The Blue line extension is far along. The purple line northern half (from the Blue line interchange to Bang Bua Thong) will open in 1 or 2 years. The Dark green one southern extension to Samut prakan is also under construction. And the light green line last 2 stations on the Thonburi side should open by the end of the year.

The SRT light red commuter line from Bang Sue to Taling Chan is finished (partly) but they forgot to order the trains and it is not finished for the last end to Bang Sue yet. So only 6 roundtrips a day are made 3 in the morning, three in the afternoon rush hours.

Tenders are written out for 2 more dark green line extensions, the orange line in 2 phases.

Others are being prepped to get tendered. Like the light and dark red SRT commuter lines.

So all in all progress is being made! At least they do not take the 20 years it will take the Dutch to build a 10 station new subway line in Amsterdam which was supposed to open a long time ago but will now open in 2017. At least the Thais make more progress than that :p

and then there's the high speed train lines to like huahin etc that no one is willing to pay inflated fares for (just like the loss making airport link lol).

but indeed good progress on several projects already & loads of traffic jams due to construction!

"loads of traffic jams due to construction!" Most definitely. One of the extensions is going near me and has made traffic horrible on that major road for several years now. Supposedly, it will be finished in a few more years. The BTS will be very nice to ride, but don't forget that it took out at least two lanes of traffic.

Hi the purple line, which is build where you life, is supposed to be run by the MRT. When the extension is also finished it will go underground from the new parliament onwards through Rattanakosin.

And the reason for the traffic jams is simple. Bangkok has to little roadspace. In most cities 30% of the area is used as road space. In Bangkok only 8%. Also everyone in Bangkok is forced onto a few major roads and the other roads are all small. Which provides for huge bottle necks. So if they are building along major roads everything will get fucked up as there are no other ways to go usually because there is a lack of roads.

The high speed train lines is another story altogether. The idiots do not want them to stop at existing stations but are planning new stations OUTSIDE of the cities they are supposed to serve. So not only will it be more expensive but it will be somewhere in the middle of nowhere and you will have to find onward transportation.

Integration of systems is something they have never heard of. Instead of building "central stations" that provide for connectivity to normal rail and would integrate the provincial bus stations so it is easy for everyone to connect, all of these services will be at separate places and people will have to go through all of the town to transfer between them.

Another example is that they are gonna move Morchit 2 to a new location, Don Meuang, Rangsit and Pathum Thani are proposed. So after you arrive you will have to take a 300 baht or so taxiride to end destination ..... sigh.

These idiots cannot even build an interchange for their highways...much less a train system!

West side of the river, Outer Ring Road going south so as to get on to Rama 2...there are *** 5 *** roads at the interchange

and then you get thrown on to the frontage road with two other roads all merging!!

A complete fluster-cluck!!!

I cannot remember a decent interchange from one highway to another without getting thrown on to a frontage road!!!
