Flashermac
A Thai Airways International flight from China veered off the runway as it arrived at Suvarnabhumi airport Sunday, and the airline said at least 13 people were injured in the rough landing. Authorities at the airport said they could not clear the accident, and flight delays were likely Monday. The Bangkok-bound flight, TG679, left Guangzhou at 9.25pm (local time) and was scheduled to arrive at Suvarnabhumi airport at 11.20pm, Thailand time. The airline statement said the nose gear of the Airbus 330-300 collapsed when it touched the runway during the landing. According to some passenger accounts, a loud noise was heard on landing and there was a fire at the right side of the aircraft. The plane skidded off the runway, and passengers were evacuated using slides. According to THAI, there were 287 passengers and 14 crew members aboard the direct flight from Guangzhou. "A total 13 passengers were slightly injured. Injured passengers were taken care and sent to hospital for medical treatment," the airline said. THAI president Sorajak Kasemsuvan said the airline had not moved the aircraft from the runway, which was blocked as of Monday morning. There was no need to switch flights to Don Muang airport, as Suvarnabhumi could manage the situation. However, some delays are expected for both inbound and outbound flights using the airport on Monday, he said. Baggage was still on the stranded flight, as the airline has to investigate the accident and remove the aircraft before unloading. http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/local/368730/thai-mishap-blocks-airport-runway

huumlaar
Well I am flying out today, but via Don Muang, thanks for international flights leaving DM! No queues at passport, no queues for x-ray, all in a great way to travel
waerth
My dear Flash, you forgot the most extraordinary detail .... the text under the photo of the plane: After the accident and evacuation of passengers by slide, the airline moved in maintenance crews who immediately began work that partly covered up the Thai Airways International logo on the tail of the aircraft. Yes as you can see in the picture ..... someone has painted black paint over the Thai flag and is still busy painting black over the logo of Thai Airways! So their first reaction is not lets investigate, bu t lets save face!
Flashermac
That is a follow up report. The earlier report I posted had no photos accompanying it. Wonder why.
waerth
In the photos in the Dutch papers all Thai logos have been overpainted with black paint: http://www.ad.nl/ad/nl/1013/Buitenland/article/detail/3506329/2013/09/09/Airbus-glijdt-van-de-baan-in-Bangkok-14-gewonden.dhtml
limbo
Yep, all painted, the logo and the name! How silly!
Mekong
From what I have read the painting out of the Logo's was not a unilateral decision taken by Thai but a directive from STAR Alliance.
radioman
Right, so many airlines use a purple tail. More than that, doesn't the blacking out rather emphasise things somewhat?
SpiceMan
Yes it does emphasize things somewhat and looks like an attempt to hide mistakes rather than correct them.
