Police were called in after a female teacher at a school in Phang Nga province burnt the hands of twenty 1st year primary school students with a candle.

The incident took place four days ago on the 16th, after teacher Miss Suchanya Ngansathin lit a candle during a lesson claiming it was for a religious ceremony. She then began to burn their hands, one by one. Some children fled the classroom, but others went along with it, resulting in burns and blisters to their hands.

Parents complained to the headmaster, but after getting no clear response from him took the matter to the police who are liaising with education officials to have the teacher removed from the school. They are also seeking compensation and money for medical bills.
