Flashermac
Crap, Waerth. You beat me to it. "Mr Weng said he did not understand why the executives of the satellite TV station did this, saying that this showed they did not support democracy, which in principle does not obstruct but is open to the expression of different opinions." No government position for Weng next time around. p

Flashermac
Silom whistles to blow again Business groups and their supporters say they will occupy Silom Road again on Wednesday if the government refuses to drop the amnesty bill. The Businessmen for Democracy Club and the Green Silom Business Group led by Somkiat Homla-or, who drew a crowd estimated by observers at 10,000 or more people to Silom Road on Monday, said they planned to return to the street again for another one-minute whistle-blowing campaign if the government turns a deaf ear to the opposition they expressed . Mr Somchai said the amended bill was unacceptable as it interferes with the judicial process and encourages corruption. Police said they counted about 8,000 protesters on Silom Road. The road from Sala Daeng intersection down to the head office of Bangkok Bank was filled with whistle blowers, who noisily announced their opposition to the bill at 12.34pm. Thousands of workers poured out of offices, joined by men and women on the street, and gathered in protest against the bill. Whistles were distributed to all participants, many of them waving the national flag, during the short rally. They deemed the bill an attempt to whitewash cases involving offences by former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra and his cabinet members, among other things. Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva also joined in the whistle blowing in Silom, while most party members paraded on Bangkok streets to the Oct 14 Memorial on Ratchadamnoen Avenue and continued to the City Pillar Shrine at Sanam Luang. The Democrat Party was in the afternoon leading tens of thousands of its supporters back to its base at Samsen railway station after the march against the bill. The opposition party's anti-amnesty rally began at Samsen on Thursday. http://www.bangkokpo...s-to-blow-again

Flashermac
Dem court case against amnesty ready Democrat chief whip Jurin Laksanavisit said on Monday the party had completed drafting a petition asking the Constitution Court to overrule the amended amnesty bill and would submit it as soon as the legislation is approved by the Senate. He was speaking after a meeting of opposition whips. The amended amnesty bill is expected to be tabled for debate by senators on Friday at the earliest, or Nov 11 at the latest, after it was passed by the House at 4.25am Friday without opposition after the Democrats walked out. The whips meeting also passed a resolution opposing the amendment of the constitution's Section 190 which was approved in parliament shortly after noon Monday by a vote of 381-165. It also now goes to the Senate. The amendment changes the current requirement that major international treaties and agreements must first be approved by parliament. In its current version, Section 190 requires all deals involving issues of sovereignty must be ratified by parliament. The amending bill gives the executive branch more power to make agreements, which could benefit certain groups or individuals while reducing the power of the legislature, Mr Jurin said. http://www.bangkokpost.com/breakingnews/378096/democrats-finalise-court-petition-to-kill-amnesty-bill
