Tell Me Again How This Is Different From 2010

Well, so far the city's business district has not been shut down for two months and thousands of Thais put out of work. Also, nothing has been burnt or looted yet. No hospitals occupied and the nurses threatened with being raped and the Supreme Patriach moved to a safer location. Oh, yeah ... no one has fired M79 grenades at the Army bases from the expressway above Wipawadee Road or lobbed grenades at the Queen's Guard Battalion, killing their colonel. I suppose that is an improvement. So is not firing M79 HE rounds into the Saladaeng BTS station, killing and wounding Thais waiting to board the trains. I also haven't seen any thugs riding around on motorcycles with red flags simply to threaten anyone from disagreeing. (The upcountry godfathers backing Thaksin brought their goons into the city with them.) And the current protesters haven't tried to set up roadblocks to check all vehicles coming into the city. :hmmm:

Then again, I was here for all of the 2010 protests and am here for this one. I also visited the protests camps in each one and spoke to protesters. And I see a big difference.

p.s. I was on Wipawadee yesterday when this happened, though I didn't see it. But this march was organised by the most extreme of the groups supporting the protests, the Students' and People's Army Against the Thaksin Regime. They are generally young and a bit rowdy, probably many vocational students among them and also some who fought at Ramkhamhaeng. I would expect the beating was most likely done by them, since they were fired up and angry after the clashes with the police just hours earlier. I saw one of them waving a police baton he had "captured" in the clashes, and several had police shields. Most of the marchers seemed to stay clear of them, and so did I! (Unfortunately, I think the longer this lasts, the more such things will happen. :( )

Yes it is one of the many regrettable things that happened yesterday. 2 death people also. As Flash remarked these are the violent more aggressive part of the protesters. I have also previously pointed out the difference between the different subgroups. And I agree with Flash that this group will grow more violent over time.

I really prefer the whistleblowing. It is a unique way to protest and it worked.

But things will only escalate from here on out till one party will back of or a coup happens. Note that a police commander reshuffle has happened yesterday as well.

One day in #Bangkok: 154 injured & 2 dead when protesters tried to stop the election process. 38 still in 8 different hospitals, 1 in ICU.

If I can find the video of the police yesterday beating the crap out of the pickup driven by a woman trying to deliver meals and water to the protesters, I will. Mind you, this was the police going wild ... not any "mob".

p.s. What do you bet the folks who trashed this taxi and beat the driver are the same ones that trashed a bus and a van at Ramkhamhaeng?

I haven't quite figured out the police shuffle yet, 3 top officers moved. :hmmm:

<< In a separate development, the taxi driver, Petch Chusrikwan, said yesterday from Phramongkutklao Hospital where he was recovering that he had complained to protesters he could not make a living while they were blocking the road.

He then threw a bottle of red liquid on to the road, which prompted protesters to assault him. >>

Aha, this explains it. Those aren't really policemen in the video. Honest! The poobah said so ...

Capo alleges protesters disguised as police to smash vehicles

The Center for the Administration of Peace and Order (CAPO) Saturday alleged that some protesters disguised themselves as policemen to smash windshields of people's vehicles near the Bangkok Youth Centre Thursday to blame police for the violence.

CAPO Spokesman Pol Maj Gen Piya Uthayo said at a press conference that police had arrested a protester who allegedly admitted that he was paid Bt500 to disguise himself as a policeman to hit the vehicles. :shakehead
