Cav, I went to Wongsawang and Ngamwonwang this afternoon. Traffic about like it was in the 1970s. People must be staying home. Shoppers were out, but far less than usual. Not many taxis to be seen, but those who are driving seem to like the lack of competition for passengers. They seem happy enough with the situation. for a while anyway.

..........

Shutdown SITREP continued:

11.58am: Dhamma Army protesters close traffic on Rama VIII Bridge. They use a truck as their rally stage and set up tents to occupy the bridge as a rally site.

12:00pm: Thaworn Senneam leads protesters from Victory Monument to surround the Public Relations Department, the Natural Resources and Environment Department, the Revenue Department and the Finance Ministry on Soi Aree.

1:55pm: PM's Secretary-General Suranand Vejjajiva says Deputy Prime Minister Phongthep Thepkanjana will hold meetings with the Election Commission, the PDRC, political parties and independent organisations on the EC's proposal to defer the election.

2pm: Protest leader Suriyasai Katasila tweets that the People’s Democratic Reform Committee insists that caretaker PM Yingluck Shinawatra has to resign from caretaking duty to pave the way for the country's reform. Election postponement is not the PDRC's main goal.

RSTA urges swift protest at Ratchaprasong

The Ratchaprasong Square Trade Association Monday urged the anti-government protesters to follow rules and not to overextend their movements.

The RSTA, which is a group of business operators, said that the protests in the area should not be prolonged that they can cause economic damage. "The area is a major economic and shopping centre. Keeping the country’s good image is the duty of all Thais, to maintain confidence among foreign investors, business persons and tourists who view Thailand one of the most attractive investment destinations."

The RSTA estimated that shopping centres and other businesses in the area serve about 250,000 locals and foreigners.

In a statement, it said that peaceful protests are welcomed. While the action plans implemented during the New Year countdown should be exercised, it suggests the protest site be clearly specified for safety reasons. It also urged protesters to free road space. Mobile toilets should be provided.

The country´s image is currently heading to somewhere between Somalia and Haiti which are also most attractive tourist destinations and offer phantastic investment opportunities .

Hi,

"They seem happy enough with the situation."

Not the one I was in. He was bitching about the demonstrations, and the government. Disliked both red & yellow, but of course Isaan people were much better than those from the South, who are all 'jai dum' :)

Sanuk!

Thais from each region have one thing in common. They all hate everyone from somewhere else. :)
