Yesterday's The Nation:

Siam Paragon, Siam Centre and Siam Discovery shopping malls near the Pathumwan rally site will close at 6pm, the public relations of the group announced.

The shopping malls were opened at 10 am.

The PR division said in a press statement that shoppers can drive to the malls on Phayathai Road and enter the parking lot at the back of Siam Discovery or can drive on the Henry-Dunant Road. Shoppers can also reach the malls via BTS skytrain services by exiting at the Siam Square station.

False Rumor about Protest Payments

The disinformation machine is working overtime to discredit the Whistlers. For instance, it is said that they are being paid 1,000 baht per day. I have not met a single person who admits to being paid. (In 2010, Red Shirts were paid.)

The Whistler Revolution is the opposite of the Red Shirt attacks of 2010. In 2010, many Red Shirts were paid, but in 2014 the Whistlers are donating to keep the protest stages operating.

Chaturon encourters whistle blowers

Caretaker Education Minister Chaturon Chaisaeng was chased out by a group of protesters who blew their whistles at him as he was inspecting schools in Yannawa district Wednesday morning.

The protesters encountered Chaturon as he was in a school in Sathupradit Road. He immediately walked into his car and left the scene.

Issara Somchai, a core leader of the People's Democratic Reform Committee in charge of the Lat Phrao rally site, went on stage this morning to urge protesters to move to the nearby Department of National Park, Wildlife and Plant Conservation to seal it off and request officials to call off their work.

A group of protesters later headed for the department for the closure mission.

Another group of PDRC protesters, led by Ravee Masmadol, went from the Energy Ministry on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road to the Huay Kwang residence of caretaker Energy Minister Pongsak Raktapongpaisarn to strengthen their pressure against the Cabinet.

They carried with them a coffin with Pongsak’s name on it and blew whistles on their arrival. They were to submit a letter to him, demanding the caretaker government’s resignation and a suspension of the increase in cooking gas price.

A representative received the letter on behalf of Mr Pongsak who was not at home. Dr Ravee said the group will move back to the Energy Ministry.

The protests against the LPG price have been going on for some time now. The protesters include red shirts as well as non-reds from all across the country. They are not talking about ice cream for the South.

<< 500 rally against floating LPG price

About 500 supporters of the Foundation for Consumers and people's networks gathered on Friday afternoon at the PTT head office on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road to protest against the plan to float the price of cooking gas.

They demanded that the Energy Ministry scrap its plan to lower the subsidy on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for household use, which will mean an increase in the price.

The protesters planned to rally until 9pm. >>

<< Activists of the Foundation for Consumers will march to the Energy Ministry this afternoon with a letter inviting the minister and top executives of the state-own PTT Plc to join a public forum to discuss the issue.

Activist leader Itaboon Anwongsa said about 30 members from his foundation would like Energy Minister Pongsak Raktapongpaisarn and PTT Plc president & CEO Pailin Chuchottaworn join the forum with ML Kasiwat Kasemsri, a representative of the people’s network at the mass rally organized by the foundation and the people’s networks on Monday (September 9).

Meanwhile Energy Minister Pongsak said that LPG price for the transport section needed to be discussed again at another meeting in order to assist small public transport services operators such as Tuk-Tuk, taxis, and song-taew or the two-row seated pickup buses. He said this meeting would focus on assisting low-income earners and operators providing transport services for low-income earners.

As for the recent increase of LPG gas for household use by 50 satang per kilogram, Mr Pongsak insisted that it would have no impact on cost of living of the people as the government has issued measures to give rights for 7.6 million low-income household, vendors to buy cooking gas at the same price before the rise. He said that the 50 satang price increase has added just merely 2 satang on top of the cost of ready-to-eat food.

He said if any food vendors and stalls adjusted price of their food citing the rise in cooking gas, he would like the people to call the commerce ministry so that legal action will be taken against them. >>

Security has been tightened around the PTT head office in Bangkok ahead of the planned rally against an increase in the price of cooking gas scheduled to start about 3pm on Friday, reports said.

The Foundation for Consumers, the People’s Network and state enterprise labour unions plan to protest against the government’s decision to lower the subsidy on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for household use.

Breaking News ...

Bang Na police station chief Pol Col Thawatkiat Chindakuansanong said that four suspects arrested on charge of carrying grenades and cartridges at a road checkpoint last night were not involved in the bomb attack on the Democrat party leader’s house on Soi Sukhumvit 31.

But he said that the police are questioning their motives for carrying explosives and ammunition. They were intercepted at a road checkpoint by 191 patrol police. They included a woman. :surprised:
