Hi,

Reading the last book of the 'The Broken Empire' series. Fantasy novel set in a world a thousand years or so after a nuclear holocaust. Quite dark at times and the main character is very different from the types in these kind of books. Usually they are heroes, nice people. This guy is an evil uncaring cunt. Makes for an interesting read.

Sanuk!

Takedown by Stephen Leather
English | 2017 | Mystery & Thriller
From the bestselling author of the Spider Shepherd series comes a heart-pounding new standalone thriller . . .
When a British Special Forces soldier goes rogue, carrying out an attack at a US army base in Syria leading to the death of two men, ex-MI5 controller Charlotte Button is hired to work out what his plan is and to take him down before he can carry it out.
Charlotte puts her best man on the case – hitman Lex Harper. It’s up to Lex to assemble a crack team and get to the soldier before he carries out what could be a massive terrorist attack. But Charlotte might require Lex’s help with a more personal problem too . . .
As ex-MI5, Charlotte holds information on thousands of the agency’s dirty operations, and keeps a store of those secrets in three flash drives hidden in separate safety deposit vaults. Now someone is taking extraordinary measures to recover the secrets through Hatton Garden-style robberies. So far two vaults have been raided, and two flash drives have gone. If the third is stolen, Charlotte’s life will be in jeopardy. While it’s down to Lex to prevent a potential terrorist attack on British soil, Charlotte must work out who is after her and what they want.

The Miernik Dossier

By: Charles McCarry

Paul Christopher was a cool, urbane American mixed up with a comical Polish exile, a beautiful Hungarian seductress, and an African prince with a lust for women and power. It was up to Christopher to discover who was who in this sticky international mess.

Interesting read in that McCarry wove reports from diaries, intelligence and interviews in to a smooth flowing story.

Here's one that might have appeal: A Billion Wicked Thoughts - some evolutionary biology/neurosciencey types use internet porn search data to explain why we're not all freaks for being into the stuff we're into, and why men and women don't understand each other.  You probably won't like their explanation for why facial cumshot compilation videos are so popular, but hey... it's science.

The Worst President in History: The Legacy of Barack Obama

Excellent read! Full of truth and facts. The Obummer lovers will cringe!
by
Matt Margolis (Goodreads Author),

As Barack Obama's presidential failures keep adding up, remembering them all can be a challenge. Matt Margolis and Mark Noonan have compiled everything you need to know about the presidency of Barack Obama (so far) into one book. Now you can easily find all the information that was ignored by the media and that Barack Obama would like you to forget.

Did Barack Obama really save this country from another Great Depression? Did he really improve our country's image around the world, or unite America? What about the new era of post-partisanship and government transparency? Did he really expand health coverage while lowering costs and cutting taxes?

The Worst President in History: The Legacy of Barack Obama compiles 200 inconvenient truths about Obama's presidency--the facts that will shape his legacy: His real record on the economy; the disaster that is Obamacare; his shocking abuses of taxpayer dollars; his bitterly divisive style of governing; his shameless usurping of the Constitution; his scandals and cover ups; his policy failures at home and abroad; the unprecedented expansion of government power... and more.

All of these facts are now at your fingertips in a single source. The Worst President in History: The Legacy of Barack Obama is your ultimate guide to Obama's real record - the record he'd like history to forget.

And Brother It's Starting to Rain

SAMUEL TAY HAS RETIRED from Singapore CID. It wasn’t entirely his idea, but that’s another story. John August is a guy who has saved Tay’s butt more than once over the years. He’s an American who may or may not do something for the CIA.

Now August wants to collect on all those favors Tay owes him. He needs Tay’s help to investigate a homicide.

‘Whose homicide?’ Tay asks.

‘Mine,’ August replies.

Tay’s little inner voice is shouting at him not to get involved. He’s a cop, he keeps telling himself, not a spy — well, at least he used to be a cop — but he’s bored and curious so how can he resist? Apparently, there’s a woman who knows who tried to kill August, and that’s a good place to start if only Tay can figure out who she actually is.

Excellent read! Jake can spin a story and keeps it moving!!

The Diamond Smugglers
by

The real-world counterpart to the fantastic James Bond novel Diamonds Are Forever, it centres around an interview with John Collard, a member of the International Diamond Security Organisation (IDSO), as well as the circumstances surrounding their meeting.

Collard explains the IDSO through a mix of examples and history, detailing the corruption and crime that he observed. The book’s contents were so incisive that De Beers (who originally pushed with the IDSO’s creation) threatened legal action.

Interesting read. One of the two non-fiction books by Ian Fleming.

SPILLOVER, Dan Quammen - the story of zoonotic diseases that spillover from animals to humans.  As with so many of the virus tales, it's a great drama with just the write superficial science on top - unless of course you've had your fill of the disease genre for the time being...
