Why is the army getting credit or criticism for the registration of migrants? That is a Thaksin project, circa 2004, I seem to remember registration of a couple million from MYA, CAM, LAO, some bitching about them having to pay a fee for health insurance and so on - I guess that project has continued to date in various forms.

YimSiam

Probably because it wasn't being enforced. Remember the panic as tens of thousands of Cambodians fled Thailand in the days immediately following the coup. They obviously had not registered their presence here.

Also, just looking at the CCTV photo, it was very obvious that it did not show the victims. The couple in the photo did not resemble them in any way.

I can't believe the information the police and press revealed. Some of this should very much have been confidential and only come out in a trial. :shakehead

Autopsies completed on British murder victims

The post-mortem report on David Miller, a British tourist killed on Koh Tao Island, has revealed that his death was the result of blows to the head and drowning, Pol Col Dr Pornchai Sutheerakune, commander of Institute of Forensic Medicine, said on Wednesday.

Water was found in Miller's lungs, his body showed traces of being dragged and there were wounds on the back of his hands, Pornchai said. The findings indicate that that he fought with his attackers, was beaten and then drowned, the doctor said.

The autopsy on the body of Hannah Witheridge, whose body was found near Miller's, showed she also had trauma to the head. There were also traces of recent sexual activity and semen was found in her vagina and anus. The doctors will use the seamen to try and identify the culprit and compare the DNA samples collected from the bodies with those from the suspects.

The doctors could not say what kind of object had been used to beat the victims only that it was a blunt object. Pornchai said he could yet not tell the time of death because the bodies has been frozen before sending them the autopsy.

With the autopsies now completed, the bodies could now be claimed. However, no request for release had yet been made.

British man prime suspect in the Koh Tao murders

A British man is now the prime suspect in the murders of two British tourists on Siree Beach in Koh Tao. According to a report in the UK’s Telegraph Prachum Ruangthong, the head of the police in Koh Tao said that he believed a British man committed the crime and later named him as Christopher, a friend of victim Mr. Miller who had been sharing a three bedroom dormitory with him, but left the island at around 2pm on Tuesday.

During the course of the investigation the police were focusing their attentions on a man caught on CCTV believe to have been a migrant worker from Myanmar, however in a dramatic development on Wednesday lunchtime the focus switched to the British man who is said to be under surveillance in Bankgok, but has not yet formally been arrested. Another news group reported that Mr. Millers friends had been stopped at Bangkok airport.

Today (Wednesday) dozens of police officers and forensic teams returned to the apartment where Mr. Miller and his friends had been staying where they discovered a plastic dustbin filled with empty bottles and cans as well as bloody bandages.

According to a report in the Bangkok post forensic results released today show that Mr. Miller had water in his lungs and tests on Miss Witheridge confirmed that she had sexual relations shortly before her death, although there is yet to be any indication that she was raped. The forensic results point to an intense struggle between the assailant and Mr. Miller who may have crawled or been dragged back to the beach. It is also thought that Miss Witheridge may have tried to fight the attacker.

<< "The results are expected within 24 hours so everything will become clear tomorrow (Thursday)," forensic police chief Pornchai Sutheerakhun, told reporters after the autopsy.

"The female victim suffered cuts to her head... while the male was beaten on the head... but water found in his lungs suggests he may have died from drowning," he said, adding cuts on Miller's hands showed signs of a struggle.

The wounds were inflicted by "a sharp, hard object... and (they were) hit hard with a rock," he added.

A bloodied garden hoe was also found near the crime scene. >>

Are we back to Burmese boat crews, or is this a new set of seamen who will help compare DNA samples?! :shakehead

Christopher Alan Ware... Guilty or innocent, once authorities start using all three names for you, you're pretty much f*cked...

This is a depraved and violent act. I am always amazed /shocked .Why/how do they do these things. This reminds me of the recent Bali suitcase murders at a location I know quite well and investigated by police I have recognized over the years. But o do these things I Thailand/Indo is madness.

If found guilty they have NO IDEA OF THE HORRORS THAT THESE PRISONS HOLD FOR THEM

Two weeks in Kerobokan prison in Bali this girl said he could not take anymore-they are just getting started.

Once inside the Balinese jails are a money making biz for the corrupt police(who control the drug trade)

Great, just great. Now what? The Thai police look more like Clouseau every day.

Thailand murder investigation stalls as DNA shows no match

Thai police admit they are struggling to find the killers of two British tourists, after it emerged crime scene DNA did not match that of any suspect.

Hannah Witheridge, 23, and David Miller, 24, were found dead on a beach on the island of Koh Tao on Monday.

British brothers Christopher and James Ware were questioned, but police now say there is no evidence against them.

Officers had said there was "strong evidence" against Burmese suspects, but now say there are no DNA matches.

Forensic tests carried out on Ms Witheridge's body revealed traces of semen from two different men, neither of which matched DNA from Mr Miller, the Ware brothers or 11 Burmese people they have been questioning.

Jonathan Head said police have admitted they "really don't know where to look now".

He said investigators had several problems, including that the crime scene was not sealed off and people were not stopped from leaving Koh Tao after the killings.

"The impression we got from a police press conference [on Thursday] was they haven't really made much progress at all," he added.

He said police were looking for a group of men who were heard singing "Western pop songs" near the crime scene.

Post-mortem examinations showed Ms Witheridge, from Hemsby in Norfolk, died from head wounds and Mr Miller, from Jersey, died from severe blows to the head and drowning.

Police said Mr Miller also suffered wounds on his hands, which indicated a struggle had taken place.

Their bodies were found close to the beach-side bungalows where they had been staying. A garden hoe believed to have been used in the attack was found nearby.

Members of Ms Witheridge's family have arrived in Bangkok and had a meeting with Thailand's deputy police chief.

British consul Michael Hancock said they were "deeply distressed" and it was "very important for the family" to speak directly to a senior police officer.

However, says the BP:

Cigarette butt DNA points to Koh Tao killers

http://www.bangkokpo...ered-woman-body

The DNA on the cigarette butt matches the DNA of the semen found. Now that they have the DNA, they should have a fair idea of the ethnicity of the killers - European, Asian or whatever.

e.g. My DNA is very definitely West European, and my haplogroup is the most common in the northwest of Ireland.

"The R-M222 lineage began in Western Europe. It is the descendant of the major R-M343 lineage. The R-M222 line spread to the British Isles. It is over 12 percent of the population in Ireland. This may be due to its connection to the Uí Néill and Connachta dynasties."
