Guest
Of course, someone who marries a farang and takes on his surname would change this, but as a general rule this is the procedure. Unlike most countries, Thai's that share the same family surname, born and living in Thailand have to be related. Duplication of a family name, by someone wishing to change their surname to a family surname, to one that already exists in Thailand on goverment record is not permitted. People want to change surnames all the time, and has become a problem, findng one different and unique. Sometimes up to ten variations, and something up to fourteen characters have to be submitted and checked on a data base, before that name change is accepted. .
