Specialist
In Huntsville, AL, we have good news, GOOD news, and REALLY! good news. The good news: A new Thai restaurant has opened in town. The GOOD news: The waitresses are all Thai. The REALLY! good news: It appears that the kitchen is, too! Best shrimp pad Thai I've had outside of Thailand. Second best overall: First Place still goes to the food cart and picnic tables on the covered patio on the corner of Suk and Suk Soi 3/1 ("Soi Arab"). Talking with one of the waitresses last night: She mentioned that one of her favorite Thai restaurants in Krung Thep was on Suk Soi 23. I think I surprised her when I named "Love Scene" instantly. She confirmed it.
Flashermac
Where is it? I've lost track of how many there are. The first was at Five Points and was passable (if you knew what to order). Then a couple more opened. I've heard mixed reactions on them. p.s. The waiters and waitresses are usually students at UAH.

Have to agree the Pad Thai is good at that place on Soi 3/1. There also was a little shop with a haidresser at the entrence where I used to get a haircut from time to time. Nice lady who always wanted to talk about her wild teenage daughter.
Flashermac
I looked up Thai restaurants in Huntsville - apparently 4 now, though I don't know if that includes this new one. Two offer Thai and sushi. What the hell kind of a combination is that? Why not Thai and catfish with hush puppies? Fried rice with grits and greens?
passingthru69
It seems that different Thai places all around the States are offering sushi as well as Thai food We were in Weatherford Tx for the past few days. Yea ha. There is a Thai place there we ate at several years back.. Was not worth the time to drive there. Well anyhow, I see a place called Full Moon. Chinese right? No it's a Thai place plus they have Chinese food as well. We went for lunch and it was nice for the states. Then the waitress starts talking to my wife and the next thing I know we were told we are to come to her and her husbands house next time we are in town. It was good food and we ordered some to go for the rest of the week.
Specialist
The new one is Big Bowl, on University, in the same L-shaped strip center with 88 Buffet and the various armed forces recruiting stations, a few doors down from the Subway end. Smaller sign says "Thai Cuisine". I spotted it months ago and have been waiting for it to open. The other three I know of are Phuket (on Providence Main), Surin (on Airport), and the place in Five Points. Charm Thai was farther out University, but is long gone (and is now Pho, a Vietnamese place that I have yet to try).
Flashermac
I can walk to the one at Five Points from home. I think I went to Charm Thai. Run by a soldier's wife? Might explain why it closed ... maybe he got transferred I people who own the Five Points liquor store owned a Thai restaurant in New Jersey. They planned to come to Huntsville, since there was none there. Instead, her sister-in-law opened the Five Points one first, so they tried a nightclub, then opened the liquor store. (She told me she hated it, but it made good money.) The gal was also worried about her son, since NJ (Patterson, I think) was "too dangerous". Instead, the son got murdered in Huntsville. (Handsome guy, easy going ... the local gals loved him. But one day he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. He was sitting in a car waiting for a friend, and a Black guy just walked up and shot him in the face. They never did find out why. Name was Kevin Turner - Irish-Am papa and Muslim Thai mama, prominent Bangkok family. Mama gave him his choice and the guy was smart enough to choose to be raised a Catholic.) Flashermac
p.s. There was one Indian restaurant in Huntsville, inexpensive lunches but expensive evening meals. I wonder if it's still there - good food. (I haven't been home in years, and I'd better before my mother decides to disown me. )
