Steve
The trend in all matters will be towards China and away from America. Its not a shock. China is the next 'great' economic power and some would debate the use of the word 'next'. It IS an economic power and is on track to eclipse America. Its reminiscent of America circa late 1800s, early 1900s just as America was quietly passing the UK as the worlds' biggest economy, this time its not so quiet. China is doing more things right than wrong and America continues to do more things wrong than right, quickening China's rate at which its catching up. China is due for a major bubble burst but it will no more end its ascent as America's numerous recessions, downturns and even depressions in its rise at the rate of one a decade did before it took over from England. China's policy makers are thinking economic rise. America's policy makers are 100% controlled by special interests and a great deal of them are doing things that stifle growth. They make money In the short term but overall is bad for the country. For example, by killing high speed rail in high traffic regions for so long, auto related industries and the airlines made money but overall it was bad for America not to have high speed rail.
baa99
The same things were said about Japan in the 1970's! Japan had decades of growth and then the bubble burst. It has never been the same.
