Hi all members of Thai360.com,

My name is Kanokwan Tangchitnusorn, I'm a Ph.D student of the College of Population Studies (CPS), Chulalongkorn University, and currently I am doing a Ph.D. dissertation about the international retirement migration (IRM) of Westerners in Thailand.

I registered to this forum because I would like to ask whether any of you be interested to participate in my study, which is an online questionnaire, you can check this out here http://goo.gl/forms/dY7GP4SNJG

Hopefully, the research results will become part of policy recommendations, which aim to constitute mutual benefits for both retired expats and Thai society as a whole. In addition, please be informed that Information related directly to you will be kept confidential. Results of the study will be reported as total picture. Any information which could be able to identify you will not appear in the report ka. :)

Thanks a lot for reading this post. :):)

does a diploma from a thai univ. carry any weight outside of thailand ?

Depends on the university. The top universities - Chulalongkorn, Thammasat, Mahidol, Kasetsart, Chiang Mai - definitely. Probably Naresuan too. Assumption University - probably (it's private and Catholic, high standards). The other private universities and most of the rachapats ... I doubt it. The standards at some of them are quite low. (You can get a decent education at them if you are willing to study, but you can usually graduate even if you don't.)

Ramkhamhaeng (open admission) is a mixed bag. It's tough to graduate from, but its reputation has been damaged by the politicians who go there and miraculously come out with PhDs without even having to show up very often. The Asia Institute of Technology was once well regarded, but I don't know if it still is after some well publicised problems they had a few years ago. Hopefully it's recovered from that.

I might add that no Thai university has ever managed to break into the top 100 in the world, and I don't recall if one even broke into the top 200. (Chula may have briefly.) Right now the highest ranking Thai universities are only in the 400s worldwide.

p.s. For comparison, my own not especially well known American university is ranked in the top 50 worldwide. Nuff said.
