The 3 U.s. Swimmers Lied About Being Robbed At Gunpoint

No wonder Lochte got out of the country as soon as possible after the alleged robbery. It turns out that the trio had their cabbie stop at a gas station and, in the process, they damaged the bathroom door. They had an argument with the gas station manager, gave him some money (maybe the $400 that they claimed was stolen) and hightailed it back to the Olympic Village. A bad look at Americans that treat supposedly third world countries without any courtesy and then try to lie their way out of the situation (or buy their way out, which happens a lot in Thailand).

Rio de Janeiro: Two Australian swimmers have been disciplined after a night out in Copacabana that saw one robbed and both of them denied a spot at the Games closing ceremony.

Australian Olympics Committee Chef de Mission Kitty Chiller has disciplined swimmers Josh Palmer and Emma McKeon after they failed to return to the Olympic Village on Tuesday night following a night out in Rio with teammates.

A statement issued on Thursday morning Rio time said McKeon and Palmer must remain in the Village between 8pm and 8am and only travel to sporting events in official RIO 2016 transport.

They will not participate in the Closing Ceremony.

"Palmer and McKeon's behaviour was unacceptable and they breached disciplinary protocols. I have raised the need for the Swimming Team Leader to ensure he is aware of his athlete's whereabouts when leaving the Olympic Village and that the swimming athletes observe the 2am curfew.

To further compound the problem, Palmer has told officials he was approached by a man who forced him to withdraw $1000 from a nearby automatic teller machine.

Rio is notorious for such crime and athletes from several countries have been told to be extremely vigilant when out.

Last week, Chiller told athletes to stay off the sand on Rio beaches at night.

It turns out that they lied about the amount of money taken; it was $50, not $400 that they gave to repair the door. On Sunday, Lochte told his mother the lie and she repeated it to the press. I don't think that his mother is very happy with her son right now.
