Coss
The world’s largest cut and faceted diamond, the Golden Jubilee Diamond, weighs 109.13 grams. It was mined in South Africa in 1985 and has been blessed by Pope John Paul II and the leaders of the Buddhist and Islamic faiths in Thailand. Link Taken at it's most basic precept, a religion is about worshipping something/someone, purportedly in order to benefit the worshipper. Religions have never shied away from attaining wealth for the administrators of the faith, whilst exerting followers to make do with nowt. Small wonder that Pope John Paul II and the leaders of the Buddhist and Islamic faiths in Thailand, were able to bless a diamond, a crystal of the element carbon. And it was all because of a brilliant, multifaceted marketing strategy designed and executed by ad agency N.W. Ayer in the early 1900s for their client, De Beers. This made diamonds worth much more, by convincing Western Women that they were worth much more (the diamonds aaaand the women).
Flashermac
Is charity really an act of giving, or is it a way to benefit the benefactor ... even if only making them feel good?

khunsanuk
Hi, "basic concept of religion seems to be duping persons into following like sheep the ones that want to control them." And notice that the reward for this are always after you have died, making it impossible to disproof. Sanuk!

panadolsandwich
Karl Marx: "Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people". He goes on to say (I'm paraphrasing now), that we fritter about needlessly plucking and twirling (imaginary) flowers from the chain that enslaves us, rather than just shrugging the wretched thing off and moving on - so that we can grow real flowers and live to adore them. The Unmensch (nowhere man) must fashion his own reality at his peril, because after all, religion didn't make man, man made religion.
