In this board's early days, there was an American BM who flew for JAL. He told me that he was the captain, but his Japanese copilot got a higher salary (because he was Japanese). He made the mistake one day of referring to JAL as "our company". A Japanese superior immediately corrected him. "It's not your company, it's our company ... and you work for us!" He said he was so angry that he almost quit on the spot. Then he remembered that the pay was good and he did get to spend his time flying from Osaka to Manila, and sometimes to Bangkok, with nice breaks in each city. He kept his mouth shut.
