The Central Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases also ordered confiscation of the 62 million baht in bribes they received. The Office of the Auditor-General (OAG) indicted Ms Juthamas, 70, and her daughter Jittisopha Siriwan, 43, in the court on Aug 25, 2015. http://www.nationmultimedia.com/news/breakingnews/30310702 Juthamas, daughter put behind bars Former Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) governor Juthamas Siriwan and her daughter were put behind bars on Wednesday following a delay in the court’s ruling on their bail applications. The Central Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases on Wednesday sentenced Juthamas to 50 years in prison for demanding and receiving a bribe of more than US$1.8 million (Bt60 million) to enable an American business couple to get the rights to run the Bangkok International Film Festival. Her daughter Jittisopha was also sentenced to 44 years in jail on the same charge. The pair sought release on bail, offering a guarantee of Bt1 million each. The primary court, however, passed on the bail request to the Appeal Court. The lower court said it feared the defendants might flee the country due to the tough penalty. As of 6pm, the Appeal Court had not ruled on the bail pleas hence the ex-TAT head and her daughter were taken to the Central Women’s Correctional Institution. Pom Michael
I'm not sure if this is a good thing. Not about the trial/conviction - but about the length of time. I would much rather give them a chance to get a reduced sentence in return for telling the story of how they worked the corruption - in detail. Corruption at a much bigger scale continues to happen, and even when in the very few cases the people are caught, tried and convicted - there are limited cases where they tell the story. Former PM Thaksin was going to get rid of corruption from the government - anyone who got caught with corrupt "receipts" would get the book thrown at them! Final thought - the two Americans who gave the bribe only got 6 months in prison.

YimSiam
If you can't get the big fish, at least give his former little fish 44 years, it seems. Can't be too many charges still pending and actionable from the pre ought-six period, so make the most of the ones you got?
