Guys, it is all Greek to me.

Why is it considered a disaster when Arabs or Muslims buy bars on the Soi Cowboy?

Sorry, but I'm a stupid and uneducated man.

Enlightenment, please.

Flashermac writes:

„There must be maybe half a dozen Arab bars now. The other bar owners want nothing to do with him. The late Darel of the DH had nothing good to say about the Arab.“

Will this change the bars substantially?

Is the interior, the interior design aimed at Arab-Muslim audiences?

Is Arabic or Persian music being played now?

What about drinks and prices?

Is there no more beer and whisky? and many other questions of this kind …

The "Arab" makes his bars look all the same, plus they are very expensive. There is no happy hour, and the dancers and "hostesses" hustle you constantly for overpriced drinks. Also, the hostesses don't tell you that they don't go out. Their sole function is to get you to spend money - lots of it. He has "bait" outside to lure you inside, where everyone does their best to take you to the cleaners.

Ok. Flashermac,

High prices for beverages

The girls very pushy for ladydrinks, all overpriced

If I understand correctly, no girl is availably, bar finable, right?

In such cases I leave the bar after a drink and never go there again!

Dot. Off. End of discussion.

What's the problem?

By the way: “to take sb. to the cleaners†= idiomatic expression, new to me, I looked it up in the dictionary. German = jemanden übers Ohr hauen

Idioms and the English Language.

One thing I find frustrating about working with non native english speakers is having to explain the idioms which I use rather prolifically.

Just the other day I said "We will cross that bridge when we come to it" which is a common English Idiom meaning "There is a perceived problem, if and when the situation arises we will deal with it then"

It took me 10 minutes to explain it to a Korean Engineer who then went on to say us native English speakers are all utter bastards (in a polite way) He said, "We learn English but still don't know what you are saying most of the time because you are talking in code"

He was absolutely correct, when I gave it some thought we do speak in riddles, but being a chip off the old block (like Father like Son} I won't get bent out of shape over it (upset by it) so I just give hime the cold shoulder (Ignored him), after all it is a piece of cake (easy) when you know.

People can learn the English Language but that does not mean they can speak English

Hi Nasiadai,

The term Arab, refers to only one person, as he is the purported owner of the "Arab" bars. He may actually be Persian. As Flashermac has said, this one guy is responsible for the renovation of some of our favourite bars, to a standard that many do not appreciate, including Neon Lighting overkill, the loss of the girlfriend experience from the staff members and huge price gouging.

So much so, that many here will not step foot, in any 'Arab' bars.

I don't think there is any general, anti Muslim, or anti Arab sentiment, in any of this discussion.

Cheers

Coss
