This literally a stock crash to a whole new level

There have been reports of injuries after the second floor of the Jakarta Stock Exchange collapsed Monday afternoon.

According to ABC correspondent Adam Harvey, who is on the scene, the ceiling of the building’s lobby fell onto the reception area, where a Starbucks sat. A spokesperson told Bloomberg the incident occurred on the ground floor of Tower 2.

Indonesian police rule out act of terror in building collapse

This implies that the Indonesian police know something, of the local standards, of building.

article in part:

At least 77 office workers have been injured during the busy lunch hour rush in Jakarta after an internal walkway connecting the twin towers of the Indonesian Stock Exchange collapsed, causing significant damage to the 24-year-old building.

Dramatic CCTV footage captures the moment the bridge collapses, showing office workers and Sumatran university students on a study trip, casually strolling along the mezzanine walkway before a siren sounds. A second later the walkway structure crumbles sending at least a dozen people falling into the lobby below.

Outside the building, television footage shows the glass frontage of the 32-story IDX tower 2 on the busy Sudirman arterial road appearing to shatter outwards as though from an explosion.

The twin tower complex was previously targeted by terrorists in an attempted car bombing in 2000 but national police spokesman Setyo Wasisto ruled out the possibility of terrorism as a cause of the collapse, saying there was “no evidence leading to that conclusionâ€.

“I can confirm it was not a bomb and not an explosion,†he said. “The section that collapsed is a bridge at the mezzanine level on top of the main lobby.â€

That will lead to questions over the structural integrity of one of Jakarta’s best known buildings, built during the previous Suharto regime under which the country’s capital experienced dramatic economic development, albeit often characterised by corruption and notoriously-shoddy construction.

Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan said “some notes†had been made about the condition of

the building after the most recent inspection last year but none of those related to the mezzanine.

But he added; “The Jakarta administration will audit the building to make sure all regulations are met. We will check all buildings whose safety certificates are due to expire.â€

The building’s partial collapse occurred as hundreds of office workers were leaving the twin towers at the start of their lunch hour, during the market’s midday break.

“There are many people injured and some of them have been taken to the nearest hospitals,†Jakarta Jakarta police spokesman Argo Yuwono said. A later police statement confirmed the number of injured at 72

“Police will investigate whether this was a result of shoddy construction, something else or purely an accident.â€...
