The TM 30 form

Recommended Posts

A friend called me today. He went to do a TM28,  which is supposed to be required if you spend more than 24 hours in another province. He told me the Pathumthani immigration office refused to accept it. They said, "We are not going to do that. It's too much work and it's ridiculous."

Rebellion in the Immigration department?  :)

I use the PT immigration ofice and when we went there earlier this month to extend Mum's visit visa we got essentially the same thing. That despite there being signs up, only in Thai, that suggest this has to be checked and done now.

It's the law, and it's a legitimate requirement but like so many other laws, once the full realisation of what that means kicks in the backtracking starts. Not too long and it will be back to as before, just another law that nobody bothers with. Unlikely to be removed as it could be useful when you want to screw with someone who is otherwise clean.

Not to mention that in 1979 there were probably 2 dozen expats on long term visas/extensions in Bangkok and a handful more spread around upcountry. Hardly a logistics nightmare.

Great until one “Retires” for me over 5:years as Skilled Specialist but as soon as decide not to work in Thailand scrutinized down the barrel  of a microscope.

Flash, over 4 decades in education and what does he get a Gemstone encrusted watch or more hoops to jump through

What? They aren't implanting GPS trackers in farangs?:neener:

They do.

A guy who is here on a BoI visa now is GPS tracked by Immi.

They didn't implant the tracker yet, just forced him to install a GPS  tracking app.

He installed it on a second phone which is lying in his toilet 24/7.

Google's (or whoever they use) Algo  wil find out soon enough,  and then the next logical step will be an implant.

I'm planning to get the forms ready before I go anywhere.

As to not telling them, it's your hotel that will report you if you stay in one, which is what makes it ridiculous. The hotel has already told Immigration, so why do we have to do it too?

.

Most hotels don't,  especially if you just stay one night,  and especially cheap hotels.

There were UN people all over the place in 1979, plus hundreds teaching at government unies, colleges and schools, not to mention several hundred more at  ISB, Ruamruedee and so on. There were at least several thousand, not counting the UN (who have a semi-diplomatic passport), missionaries, foreign volunteers, foreign journalists etc.  But back then I didn't even need a work permit, since I was a "temporary civil servant". Educators and Thai government employees were all exempt, since the government had given us permission by hiring us. That changed around 1982, when the Immigration police decided to ignore the exemption! The Labor Dept was confused, since they can only issue a WP to someone who has a visa, and the Immigration folks were insisting you needed a WP before they'd let you have a visa!

Amazing Thailand ...
