Coss
WTF? (Why Thai Fools?) The Thai government is pondering an amnesty bill that would grant medical officials connected with fighting Covid, legal protection against criminal charges. Just 6.7% of Thai residents are currently fully vaccinated against Covid-19, while 23% have already received their first dose. The US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention is warning citizens against travel to Thailand. Drug officers in the Mekong Riverine Unit have seized 560 kilograms of dried cannabis and arrested four people in Nakhon Pathom. https://thethaiger.comnews/national/thailand-news-today-covid-official-amnesty-nearly-7-totally-vaccinated-august-10 ________________________ It maybe something that's lost in translation, but the above story from thethaiger.com reads like, these officials will be able to run rampant and commit, crimes numerous, with no consequences, if this law is passed. Mekong
This shouldn’t be required, why on earth medical officials connected with fighting Covid should be subject to any Criminal charges is beyond me. Criminal charges should be brought against the government for negligence. 560kg of weed bust seems odd placed in the article, maybe the editor of Thaiger has been smoking some. baa99
I can think of possible backhanders for vaccine contracts and other COVID related contracts.
Coss
Protection for medics or impunity for govt: COVID amnesty bill under spotlight The government is poised to declare one of its most controversial decrees under emergency law – one that would hand legal immunity to both COVID-19 health workers and those in charge of vaccine procurement. While Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul insists this so-called “amnesty decree” is designed to boost morale of health personnel working in the frontline, critics are not convinced. What is the amnesty decree? Drafted by the Public Health Ministry, the proposed law is officially titled the “Emergency Decree on Limited Liability of Healthcare Workers in COVID-19 Treatments”. The draft decree emerged in response to a resolution passed by the ministry’s Emergency Operation Centre for COVID-19 Situation on July 27. The resolution instructed the Health Service Support Department (HSSD) to improve legal mechanisms for the protection of healthcare personnel working under the state of emergency imposed since March 26, 2020, to tackle the COVID-19 epidemic. The draft would exempt medical workers and medical facilities from any civil, criminal, disciplinary and tort liabilities for mistakes they make while carrying out duties in an emergency. The law covers doctors, medical practitioners, village health volunteers, ad-hoc volunteers and those asked by health professionals to help. It would also hand legal immunity to people or groups assigned by authorities to procure, distribute or manage the COVID-19 vaccine rollout. Medical facilities covered by the new law will include hospitals or venues manned by healthcare workers for the treatment of COVID-19 cases... https://www.thaipbsworld.com/protection-for-medics-or-impunity-for-govt-covid-amnesty-bill-under-spotlight/
khunsanuk
Hi, This is all but admitting that backhanders were paid during the vaccine procurement process. Sanuk!
Mekong
The original article dated 10 August only mentioned Medical Officials and not those in charge of or involved in vaccine procurement. Drafted by the Public Health Ministry who’s head in Anuntin the person the bill protects most, fishy? You can smell the whole goddamned aquarium. And meanwhile The government is being sued for damages by the Move Forward Party (MFP) over its alleged failures in handling the Covid-19 pandemic. MFP deputy leader Sirikanya Tansakul said about 100 people will file the class-action suit with the Civil Court on Tuesday. The group is demanding compensation for the economic impact of the pandemic which they claim the government has failed to deal with adequately. Ms Sirikanya said the party has helped to bring together people seeking to sue the government and was covering their legal expenses. The deputy party leader said mismanagement by the government could be seen in faulty vaccine procurement and the problematic allocation of public health resources which have resulted in the deaths of Covid-19 sufferers. While on the economic front, many businesses were ordered to cease trading without adequate compensation. https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/general/2165359/move-forward-leads-legal-bid-over-virus-response

Sanuk! More than Backhanders KS, If that were only the case and vaccine rollout was successful / on target, Thais would accept that. This is about impunity for gross incompetence and dereliction of duties for the Chairman of CCSA (Gen Pinocchio Prime Minister) Public Health Ministry (Minister Anuntin the Deputy Prime Minister) and all the other Cronies. Basically the Government are proposing an Emergency Decree to protect themselves and make them bullet proof, even a bling man could see through this.
