Anyone here who are into Thai music?

I have been listening to Carabao for about 20 years, and its probably my favourite music. Other Thai music which I like is Labanoon, Peter, Palmy, Silly fools. Usually I try to get some tips from my friends on what to get when I am in Thailand.

My ex-wife is actually a moa larm singer, who has released 2 CD's in Thailand (not well known ones). Although I am not really into that stuff some is o.k.

For people situated outside Thailland check out this site:

www.thainetcity.com (no, I don't know the dude running it).

Any tips on music worth getting? Or are you all the types who quickly changes or turns down your GF of wife's choice of music? smile.gif

Cheers!

Your ex wife is a morlam singer? you lucky bastard why did you split up and what is her name. Morlam is better than drugs and no come down either. Banyen Raggen is my favourite along with Deang Jitakorn Job and Joy and Jintara although thai's describe Jintara's style as half half morlam/luktung. Banyen is hypnotic I can listen to her all night, what style of morlam did the ex sing? There is one girl called Honey sri Issan who only made a couple of tapes before her car hit a tree, but recently her songs have been re released and well worth getting.

I listen to luktung more than morlam, Yui Yatt Yerr, Sunaree, Fon Thanasunthorn, Monsit Khomsoi and Pumpuang are some of my favourites. Siriporn Ampaipong has a hauntingly beautiful voice, recommend a listen to her grammy CD's especially the first one called parin ya jai. There are so many great thai country music singers and all the ones I have seen sound just as good live. I think the business is competative much more than the pop rubbish, where what you look like and who you know seems to count more.

The service from thai netcity is excellent, I have used the other ones ethaicd and thai megamart, but netcity is the best and come in a week .I think Dr Olarn gets the discs from scorpion in major cineplex, that's where I go when I am there, like a kid in a sweet shop. Tips for CD, well try Yui Yatt Yerr everyone like her and Fon, her Ab Rak kao CD is lovely and the one before with Jai Orn song on it. Have a look on www.sure-audio.com site they have some video and full length songs, fon has a new one out as does monsit. Sure have a group of singers with 2 CD cha cha cha, fast luktung, Fon + Monsit+ Amporm+Kaseem and some others I forget. Sunaree Rachasima is probably the most famous and respected luktung singer alive, try one of her CD's. There are so many, kai Pannipha is good also, Olawee, Ying Yong, Rung Suriya, Apaporn, Luknok Supaporn. Of course you can always listen to the Eagles instead!-peter

Ex CD's didn't sell very well, I don't really want to name her on this board. The reasons for us splitting up are several, me being a cheating bastard might have had something to do with it..

Thanks for your tips Peter, I'll check some of it out. I like sam cha, Carabao has some CD's with this stuff. I believe they have got a lot of inspiration from this style.

For richer fans, if you contact the record companies you can arrange your very own concert in the region of 50-60,000 baht. This might sound a lot, but when you consider kylie is said to cost about 15 million baht for half an hour, the thai stars are a bargain, and most of them can sing better than our kylie too.I might save up and book Jintara sometime next year if anyone wants to chip in-peter

"if you say Thai music, do you mean what they offer as " Thai Pop " on Thai Air entertainment ? I cannot imagine that anybody non-Thai can listen to this longer than 10 seconds"

There is a lot more to Thai music than that. Although some Thai pop is o.k. also. There are some quite decent rock groups - my fav one is Carabao which surely most have heard. "Welcome to Thailand" could be this boards theme song I guess (Tom, Tom where you go last nite, I love muang Thai I like Patpong......) smile.gif

I was surprised to see Thai music in shops in Vietnam when I was there. Vietnamese pop and rock is shit, so appearently they like Thai better...
