gawguy
What is the best way to express this? What about in the context of needing to cross Sukumvit to get a taxi in the opposite direction. In English I would say, "We have to cross the street to get a taxi." Thanks, GG
Guest
"We have to cross the street to get a taxi." I presume you are talking to a Thai in this case. Rau Khuan tje pai riak Taksi fang thong khaam (thanon) = we better call a taxi on the other side of the road.
Guest
I would say it like this.. rau dtong kahm tanon pai riak taxi - à ÃÒµéç¢éÒö¹¹ä»à ÃÕ¡á·ç¡«Õè. What does 'fang' mean? Can you write it in Thai for me?
markle
To break it down "across the street" (denoting a place) would be - ÃÂÙèµÃ§(¡Ñ¹)¢éÒà -yoo trong(gun)kahm or ÃÂÙè½Ñè§â¹è¹ - yoo fung non whereas "going across or crossing the street" (denoting the action) would be ¢éÒö¹¹ - kahm thanon FF ½Ñè§ (fung) means side. originally used for riverbank or coastline but has been expanded. that's why they call Thonburi ½Ñ觸¹ Fung Tho in BKK
Guest
Fang thong Khaam = opposite side Using "dtong" makes is sound like "must", whereas the original poster said "we better". Therefore "Rau Khuan"
Guest
Thanks for the explanation on 'fang'. Admittedly I haven't heard it, or if I have I didn't know what I was hearing. And actually the original poster used 'have to' that is why I used 'dtong'. But all the same, I think rather than trying to get an exact translation of his words, I think we both knows what he wants to say..
