Writes Stickman ...

"The gogo guru himself, Dave The Rave, can see the ship is sinking and has left Nana Plaza, his second home for the last 16+ years. Dave has enjoyed a glorious career as a bar manager that has seen him at the helm of some of the best bars in the plaza during their heyday including Pretty Lady in the late '90s, Hollywood from the turn of the century for before he later moved on to Angelwitch and Spellbound. Is Dave the latest guy with a web presence to have turned his back on Thailand? More about Bangkok's best known bar manager in the next week or two."

Dave himself writes that he is moving to Patpong. Maybe the old sois will be worth going to again? :hmmm:

Apart from Nasiadai probably committing suicide I can´t see any disadvantage in seeing Nanaplaza disappear . Executing my latest scientific nightlife research I have been there once and the last time . I felt treated like an idiot which is probaly justified but not enjoyable .

Yes, Nana Plaza is changing, it is dying, which is a slow process protracting over many years.

There are the first victims, the first losers of this development.

The nightlife spots Nana Plaza, Soi Cowboy, Patpong are getting much too expensive for many guys of the western world.

Even the freelancer scene as Biergarten Soi 7 or Thermae or along Soi 4 is too expensive for many guys of the western world.

Drinks and lady drinks 140 to 170, 180 Baht in the bars of Nana and Cowboy.

Short time for 2,000 – 2500 Baht, long time 3000 – 5000 Baht!

In the last 2 years I wrote some longer comments and detailed articles about that issue on this board.

In the West wages and salaries stagnating since 10-12 years. There is no general rise in prosperity any more.

For decades Siam has an economic growth between 6 - 10% anually. Every year this country generates a significant growth in wealth.

The price level rose, but wages and salaries of all Thais rose significantly higher than the annual inflation.

This positive economic development is reflected in the exchange rates.

Before 11 - 12 years - at the beginning of the Euro - there were 50-52 Baht for the Euro.

Today 34-37 Baht!

Before 11 - 12 years you got 45-48 Baht for the US Dollar.

Americans, how much do you get today? 32-34 Baht. Round about.

What a crash for the US-Dollar and the Euro!

Look at the English Pound! Same same.

Today you need 280 – 300 Dollar a day to buy the same as 8 or 10 or 12 years ago, you could have for 100 – 125 Dollar.

Do western guys have an income which is round about 250% higher than 8 or 10 or 12 years ago?NO!

What I didn't mention – only headwords:

* The negative demographic development in Thailand for about 30 years.

Today many girls who are older than 30 years dance and work in the bars.

* The bars are now working with another gastronomic concept. In recent years, the great bars in the Plaza had 80 to 100 girls on their pay roll. Today they have 20 to 25 girls.

* The rise in land prices in Bangkok; especially at the Sukumvhit. This means exorbitant increase in rents and leases for the bar owners at Nana.

* 100 barfines are done by 60 Japanese and 40 Farlangs only.

That's what I counted with my Thai friends on one evening in the Bar Lucky Luke.

By the way:

I can´t see any disadvantage in seeing Nanaplaza, Soi Cowboy and Patpong disappear hahahaha

I felt treated not like an idiot but like a Saudi oil Sheik with Millions of Dollars in his pockets.

There have been info- and discussion-boards like this one of Khun Sanuk for about 20 years now.

The spirit of optimism, the optimistic atmosphere and the rosy euphoria of the first 15 years have given way to sobriety and disillusion.

In the years 1993-1996 started many discussion boards like this one with lots of energy and optimism. In the last 4 – 5 years or so, a certain “disenchantment of the siam sanuk-scene†has been gaining ground. The good old cheap times are gone forever and with these vanished times a New Sobriety coupled with a cool damp rule now. And all boards are not as agile, as lively as before. That affects all boards, both German-speaking and international English. Many boards died in the meantime.

Enough for one go.

Mr Nasiadai when I say somebody treats me like an idiot then in case of Nanaplaza that means an ex Isaan-farmer takes a seat next to me and not even looking at me asking Youbuymedink ? and later the establishment charges me 200 Baht for red coloured still water . And after 10 minutes my sweetheart disappears and explains she has to go dancing , meaning she almost falls asleep swinging her ass in small circles through the air on a stage . I would not mind paying 400 for something that makes me feel well , or 4000 . Nanaplaza is low level entertainment , I don´t know what the reasons are . Thanks Buddha I have many alternatives .

In sweet memories of Clinton Plaza , the old times were better . Actually not necessarily .

Actually I do, much higher than that in percentage terms and greater still in terms of free cash but I don't pay these lunatic prices.

My last trip I said to myself that I should not care what the cost and I sent a lot of cash to my Thai account but in both Bangkok and Pattaya, I found me refusing myself because I considered it madness to drop a months wages for a regular Thai worker on an ungrateful hooker for a (likely) uninspiring encounter. I enjoyed great times with pleasant people and left the wannabees chasing the LDOP newbie.
