Gentlemen,

most disturbing tendencies I noted during my visit a fortnight ago and the one beginning of last December. The cluster of high end miniature massage shops along Villa Market Soi 11 has disappeared ! Historical home of ten thousands of blowjobs, handjobs and full services. With utmost pride I may let the community know that I did occasionally contribute to this landmark of Thai culture.

Further disappeared has restaurant SUK11 where at heavy rain large numbers of rats started running through the premises. Sensitive subjects used to leave the place in open panic and sometimes screaming for help. Very entertaining.

I wonder how long the redlight area between Sois 4 and 7/1 shall survive, the writing is on the wall.

In My Humble Opinion, further up Sukhumvit, it died 15 Years ago. First the fire at the Ambassador Hotel then Chuwit bulldozing Soi 10 Beer Bar Complex and then the demise of Clinton Plaza in May 2003. It all occurred within a 5 month time span and the whole complex of the area changed.

I had been in Thailand about 12 years by then, Ironically it was at that time when I moved from Sukhumvit Soi 13 (Party Pad Central) to Rama 3 / Sathu Pradit district, I had done 12 months constant "Holiday Mode" and needed to get my head together / shit sorted out, I was so skint back then I didn't even have the money for the Air Fare back to the UK so I did the time honoured thing "When in need go back to Saudi" the default "Go To Place" for quick money.

Do I regret my wasted year? Come on would you, I was in my late 30's a few Bucks in my pocket, nice apartment and in (IMHO) Lower Sukhumvit hey days, I'd have been mental not too. As my late Grandfather told me "Son, it is better to regret something one has done rather than regretting not doing it at all" not that I regret my hedonistic past, not for one minute

I Survived / Grew up, many people don't, Now in my mid 50's still in Bangkok, well the Suburbs and that is when here spending 80% of time in Vietnam working but I still have my memories.

Do you remember when you were a wee nipper and you used to laugh at the old farts saying "Aye, I remember when all this was fields" whilst casting a hand in the distance over the new Industrial Estate / Housing Area haha. I have grown to be such an old fart ahhh happy days.

After due consideration of all potentially relevant aspects I come to the conclusion that I also belong to the social group of aforementioned old farts . Though I may insist on quality fart . I did never really share the joys of the Thai nightlife apart from occasional excursions and therefore do not miss anything . Except Clinton Plaza for that matter . Walking along Sukhumvit and Silom has become a real delight since they sent all the vendors way , if only the damned dildo sellers would disappear. What a disgrace.
