Come along for a listen and have some fun listening to the best farang music in the area.
Or The Good the Bad and the Ugly, or perhaps, God Devil and Archangel Chapstick.

Which ever!

Had to go to Khon Kaen which has always been a fav city of mine. But to be honest I had never really had the chance to explore the seedier side, to find those missing fallen angels, so with my 2 side sticks, we took on Khon Kaen.

Finding a Hotel was oddly difficult, with the "international local government conference" being held in town. The holy spirit declined where the devil and I stayed, he was looking for somewhere more suitable for a man of mystery the a holy spirit is.

First day/evening was good, our angels, pointed out a soapy opposite the hotel, which we had failed to notice, and gave us permission to visit while they went shopping. Evil angles they are as they must have known it was in keeping with the dinosaur capital of Thailand theme Khon Kaen has, the soapy was inhabited only by dinosaurs. A truly ugly bunch of relics once whores. (A small plug here for Kiwi Cafe, great spot) (New Zealanders will get that)

Still this gave us the excuse to pull a "Flash" and investigate the lake side, a place we had been told frequented by girls in tight Uni Uniforms. Not a lot available, but there was enough talent there, more importantly for the angels, a good market, but to our surprise when we called to ask them to come shopping the angels didn't want to come to the market and shop! Instead they claimed to be distracted by a lesbian bar!

So we sat in a nice bar, after a walk and drive around the town, and drank for a while. Nice staff, who all came running whenever I used the Laos words for "Bring Beer"

"Tilac Jaar" always works when I need beer at home, or a gay boy.

The 3rd wheel of of triumvirate showed up in true Catholic fashion, maybe we should be called the father the son and the holey ghost, god knows the 3rd person had brought enough alter wine!

So off to the walking street, always great food, where we popped a bottle of quality alter wine to the amusement of the angels and walking street people. Nothing like Fluffy catfish and Aussie Red wine!

The second bottle had a cork, so the girls elected to go shopping . . . . . again . . . . so the three of us departed to a bar we where sure we could get a screw!

Turns out the 3 girls and katoey remembered us but didn't have a screw between them so off they went on a motorbike, leaving us with Beer Chang to cool ourselves while we waited.

It took them 30 minutes to screw the alter wine open, takes me only 3 minutes on a good day!

Dedication such as that needed rewarded, so the dumber one of our party very sneakingly handed over a 100 baht note. The dumb one knows I am against heavy tipping, regardless how cute the dek serve so I didn't notice, however just then from the tree above us large seeds dropped on us.

A strange heavenly omen meaning what I wondered? Looking up into the tree we saw nothing, yet again what seemed to be large seeds and sticks fell upon us.

The Angels called shortly after, lucky as we didn't want to be seen flirting with 3 dek serves and a katoey!

Off back to the hotel, a few more night caps before going asleep.

These night caps took the devil and me to a area we had passed earlier in the day, a Soi with dodgy buildings marked with a dyslexic devil "999". Devil and I both laughed, knowing it should be 666!

So we went back this evening, and found a bar on the corner where young girls in tight dresses waved down passing cars.

Parking and upon walking to the bar, the affects of the alter wine began to clear and we realized the young girls where one girl aged 28, another 39, and a third to fat to judge or care her age.

Feeling still intoxicated with the holy spirit, we sat and chewed the fat with a whore who's English was great, as you'd expect from someone who'd been fucking white men for a good part of last century. Never once where we asked to buy a drink, and as time went on, she idly suggested, "Any one of us you can take, 500 baht, including air con room"

I asked how much without the girl, explaining the difficulty of finding a room, but never got a clear answer.

Friday, the next day we had some missionary work to do, which took us on roads that made the red sea crossing seem easy.

We met a women older than Moses, and as instructed by the holy spirit gave her 100 baht for Lao Koa, turns out the holy spirit had never bought her a drink once! But uses unsuspecting guests to do his duties! The Holy Ghost is sneaky!

We left the Holy Spirit to his duties in the this distant village and went back to Khon Kaen with our angels.

With the girls off . . . . shopping, we continued our research in where do white men drink in KK?

We found the "Seven Bar" which used to be SVEN bar until Sven died and someone not called Sven boght it and to avoid being called Sven added a "E".

Parking the car outside the dearly departed Svens Bar, we saw around the corner a odd site, a Laundry Mat, with tables out front, with a few blokes drinking.

Given there where only a few blokes mourning the now late Sven's place, we thought, lets go drink in the Laundry

SO off we went.

What a bloody joy! A GREAT place to drink, and we where NOT the first to discover the charms of drinking while getting you're clothes washed or a shirt ironed. A nice crowd slowly joined being Friday late afternoon.

Knowing how annoying it is to sit with whinging English teachers, we checked first because as we told the people drinking, nothing worse than drinking with English Teachers.

"None of you guys are those whinging English Teachers" asked the devil smiling.

With Silence as a answer, what a great introduction, but turns out unlike Surin, these teachers where pretty good fun to be with. Must have been the venue making them happy for once! Dam nice blokes.

So we sat and drank a few rounds, 90 baht a 1 litre jug, with free nuts to nibble, now you know why I created Katoeys.

We found out, apart from where Sven's ghost rests, up and around the corner was the main Farang bar drag. A few more jugs and we parted the waters and wondered up that way.

Pretty amazing to discover 6 other farang bars, each with less people than the Laundry! Their only attraction was some cute dek serves looking very bored.

We also discovered the area we'd been in last night with the upside down 666's was called Soi 5, where a fuck costs 2-300 baht, and lasts 10 minutes, not knowing what I'd do with the extra 7 minutes it seems a good deal. Apparently the girl just lifts her dress and away you go, no need for a hotel! With that I worked out the hotel room must be 200 a night from the previous evening, if I had partaken of course, cheap including air!

The Angles called, so collected them and took them to the laundry, they loved it as you can get women's clothes made there while you drink as well!

Turns out the owner and wife are from the town up the road from me.

Enough of being clean and drunk, dinner called.

The devil is always in the details, but a great dinner by the lake managed to drag on long enough for the angels to get worried they'd miss their soap opera.

That left the devil and I free to go and see if the few cute creatures sitting alone in the other farang bars were still alone.

Turns out they were. Now - if you have a bar, it costs nothing more to hire a good looking dek serve. In this country, with so many cute girls, you really need to go out of your way to hire ugly ones. I'm not asking for whores, just someone pleasant to chat with. So we found a place with the same empty bar stools as before, and 2 hot dek serves. As you'd expect for a Friday night!

Sitting down, we quickly discovered the owner must have had his green farang eyes on the dek serves, they were not allowed to talk to customers, making ordering difficult, and a very empty sad bar, like many of the other Farang bars.

Seems the only successful bar, was the laundry!

Leaving the empty bar after one round, we spotted the flag of god's own country and staggered over.

Under a large Southern Cross we found 2 attractive ladies, wanting to ply us with beer.

Feeling in need of a pizza, we ordered one first then sat down to drink when suddenly the bar owner, a nice gal of about 28, said

"I know you, your John the saddist"

I was a tad stunned, the devil smirked, and she went on to describe incidents I had, err, forgotten, from another city far far away. Lost angels found.

Ahhh

Khon Kaen, great town!~

Same place as the other German who died, RIP, good spot, opens 10 am till very very late, after the local disco closes for the late night Thais.

Good cheap to not cheap expat food, ice cream for kids, coffee (real) 40 baht, beer local prices.

If your in the area, try it out.

Tartie - I think we need another visit, maybe after a trip to the pool?

Funny story, no idea if people remember the scene from Goldmember, the Austn Powers spoof, where the Dutch villian says "Farger" instead of Father.

I spent 5 minutes trying to work out how to say the blokes name.

The closest I come too is gargle hot coffee and try and say Roger without burning or drowning yourself.

VERY nice guy

Late last week I was strolling down Surin's answer to Walking Street (allbeit a poor cousin!!)

Up until recently we had 3 Go Go's cum Coyote dens....now there are 2

The third one recently re invented itself as The SNOFF Pub...WTF???

When this happened, a few weeks ago, I lost contact with a "little friend" who danced there....had her No. but just hadn't bothered calling.

As I passed one of the many Kareoke joints, I hear my name being called....It was her, dutifully trying to solicit business. Stopped and chatted. She worked overtime batting the eyes, trying to entice me into letting her....sing song you...lol

I personally do not like these places and declined....told her I was meeting friends at one of the Coyote's..

OK...can you pay Bar me & I come with you...wink wink....

I thought about it...and knew that the standard going rate BF in this strip is 700Bt (yeah, I know farrrkn outrageous)...weakened ...and said...sure...why not!!!!

Mamasan comes over....you want pay Bay she?? Yep...OK...

1030 Baht thank you

WTF.... I'm only taking 1...not 4

Yes...1030 baht.....and you get free small botten Legency...OK

No farrrkkn way sweetheart....

Bye....see ya

I just want to get a thread going to monitor the situation in Surin. I know it's peaceful, but my sis in law (govt) said there have been small scale protests at Surin City Hall, but quiet and peaceful. She told me that most seem to have contempt for them and wish they would go away.

We will be there in two months and we have no intentions of altering our plans.

For those who do not know of this site it is a good one to keep up with local Surin goings on. If you join the site before Jan. 6 and are in Surin they are having a party at my new restaurant with free beers and foods from 1 to 5 p.m. Only board members can avail themselves of the free beers and food. So join the site and come along if you are living here or visiting here.

Just Google up Surinfarang.com

They are no competition for 360, just a local board like many of the small boards that focuses on a city where local expats live, work, or visit from time to time.

Just letting you all know who might be around here then and like to join up with the locals and get a free beer or two.

The nparty is on Friday the 8th of January. 1 to 5 p.m.

Was out for a while with DS last night. We decided at one point to take a stroll down the main street in front of the Thong Tarin Hotel and check out some of the places we have never been in, some new/er and some old. It is amazing how many great small places there are along there. There's a newer club, huge, AC, mixed tropical drinks served (125 each for most), a nice Sushi menu to choose from, live music, etc. I'll be back there for sure. Also ran across a small Thai venue with cute dek serve, nice Thai citizens eating and having some brews and sanuk, also with live music that was quite good and fun as well (no AC here, just a small Beer Bar cum restaurant/pub. Good atmosphere here really.

We ran across a few others to check out on another night. Surin really does have a nice nightlife scene though (nightlife not being just agogos). Eye candy abounds, friendly smiles, nice people to chat with, good foods, cheap drinks.

It ain't Bangkok, but it isn't half bad really.

Popped into a late night Karaoke place on the Soi Cola area one night with a friend toward the end of the evening out.

Very sexy girls enticed us into the place by claiming it was 100 baht for an hour in the room. It was, but they failed to mention it was also 100 baht per hour per girl to stay and sexy dance for you. Not bad though really. 300 baht all in excepting any tips you gave the ladies for the hour. And, there are some VERY pretty and sexy women in these karaoke places up here.

What makes this a good, and inexpensive, way to party with some pretty ladies is the fact that here at least, you can bring in your own bottle of booze and just pay for the mixers and ice for your drinks.

A good fun way to pass an hour, and it seems they were up for after-hour fun as well in a ST room (no sex on the premises, but a lot of playful teasing and grinding and tops off for fondling was had).

Watch out for the Thai boy staff though. They seem to have peep holes they watch you through. I caught one when I went to the hong nam (on my way back to the room) watching the goings-on inside through a crack in the door.

The girls here are very nice though, and some are at the top of the chart for 1 through 10 in beauty and sex appeal. There are about a half dozen karaokes on this soi, as well as a rock pub that opens late and stays open well after 3 a.m., and the Speed 3 Disco, and 2 a-gogo bars as well. It is the soi to the left of the Thong Tarin Hotel if you stand facing the hotel.

A few expats here have said that Speed 3 disco is great for pulling ladies from, and easy to do. I have seen the Tawan Dang club has many farang curious ladies giving the goo goo eyes seemingly available for a bit of chatting that look easy enough to get out of the place for some late evening fun. The Tawan Dang and Speed 3 disco venues are chock full of sexy Thai lasses, all single and looking for some fun.

Surin rocks - for such a smaller city.

I had dinner this evening with a semi-ex BG, and she was going on about the tremendous punter opportunities in Surin. She was so enthusiastic about Surin that I was wondering if her new job was with TAT - lower Issan division.

To make this more concrete, she cited 19 year old stunners - students - availble for LTs at a mere 500 Baht. I am skeptical, but she produced enough smoke (merely for purposes of blowing it up my ass?) to pique my curiosity. Can anyone here provide a credible description of the Surin beer bar scene?

No idea why - but the owners of a very dodgy loas girl filled brothel came to the sister in law's hair shop and asked her to ask my wife if she (the wife) (SIL is flat out running a hair shop) could buy the brothel!

Seems people think that the wife has retired rich back to the village instead of running away with me and the kids to the village to save $'s and enjoy a nicer life.

The land is a few large Rai - as opposed the small Rai they use elsewhere - the girls Loas but cute I am told by those I went there with once. Bamboo shacks and thatched roof complete with karaoke - in fact with out the karaoke it would almost look nice.

Have been out and about recently with the Dumb Cnut searching and destroying places to eat and drink and be merry in the area of Surin.

Harley Bar is a nice little pub about 20 minutes drive out of Surin by the city of Prasat. It sits in a small block of shophouses just off the highway 24 and Rte 214 junction of 24. While on Highway 24 when you hit the junction where 24 and Rte 214 meet you take a right on 214 heading to Prasat (a left turn would take you to Surin). After taking the right off 24 onto 214 heading to Prasat you take the very next right! There is a strip of townhouses on your right after you make the turn. At the entrance can be seen a 'guard shack'. This is the driveway you want to enter. Go in and drive down until you see a roofed market area on your left (it is new and big, just a roof and columns). It is only maybe 30 or 40 meters in the entrance. Across from this market area is two roads with a small strip of grass in between. Turn right into the first road and go to the end. Harley Pub is there on your left (next to another farang owned establishment named "Gary's Restaurant" and his shop for buying farang foods -which I'll name when I remember what the fuck it is called :-) ). Ah yes, Stafford's is the name of Gary's place next door to Harley Pub - I'll make a post on this great place as well later.)

Harley Pub is owned by a nice, friendly and 'very big' Londoner named Paul, a fairly young chap - compared to DS and myself at least. Plenty of good boozes available here, they have a decent pool table as well - which DS and I are using to practice on every couple of days to up our game), nice seating out front, small bar, good music and big flat screen TVs as well. Harley Pub is a great place to unwind, have a drink (food is available from the restaurant next door, and it is the best farang food available around these parts and top stuff), and have a chat with local farang, the owner, and have a game of pool (only snooker seems to be available now in Surin city).

Definitely worth the drive from Surin and a nice place to eat, drink, and be merry.

Across the street are a few karaoke bars with ladies available for more than just singing, down the street same side as the Harley Pub is a small Thai pub/club with ladies available for fun. It is a small area with some options for sanuk, your female companionship choices are limited but there are a couple cuties here and there. Speaking Thai is pretty much needed, although as usual a smattering of English is known by many of the ladies.

Check it out if you are in the area. You can't go wrong here.

Next month I will be in Surin for 6 weeks (wife's family home/upper middle class so I've got to be careful). I've been to a few MP there near the soi by the sports complex and the petkasam and they have no happy endings. Any help would be appreciated. What's the story about Memorial? I bike by there all the time.

Yep, much cheaper in Surin. A friend of mine and I went out to the newer Oops! Coyote Pub a week or two ago. 4 or 5 hours with ladies sitting with us, 2 or 3 lady drinks each, we brought our own bottle but corkage and ice and cola was cheap enough, also bought a plate of food for one lady (it was good too-I had a few bites-good cook there!) Total cost was like 1400/1500 baht in all. 700/750 baht each. And, the women were friendly, all good looking except one I thought was heavy, and the place is huge, new, great a/c, it even has a glassed in room for the smokers with AC, tables and chairs and a large screen tv to watch while you are having a smoke. Attentive staff, and NO pushing for lady drinks. Actually the girls don't approach you until you call them over. I didn't like the music presented, nor the volume (not too bad but still too loud). If you are into sports though they have about ten or so TV around the place to watch football and Formula One and such stuff. Nicely done up for a smaller city like Surin. I'll be back when more friends visit. A nice place with good atmosphere and pretty women.

--------------------

Drogon asked me:

Thanks for the small report Cent.

What about the qualities of the ladies there?

---------------------

My answer:

Lots of good looking women in there (most between 19 and 25). They work in rotation with the other agogo bar there on Soi Cola/Soi Entertainment as it is called. There is also a new disco, the old Speed3 was torn down and a new Speed3 built right across the parking lot. Most of the women are more toward the Thai man spectrum of choice, light skinned. Little English from most, Thai, Lao and Khmer speaking, but some small English from many. LT/ ST prices are being asked at the same rates as BKK though. What the Thai men are quoted I have yet to find out. I don't indulge in that, but as friends do I would like to get further info for them. They also have a great new restaurant behind the Speed3 disco that has good food, open and airy (used to be a large snooker club before), great fried softshell crab, no problem bringing in a bottle there, cheap, tasty, and a HUGE big screen tv on the wall for watching sports and such. Surin is doing it up god lately. Lots of gorgeous little karaoke lasses and about five or six karake places (I went in one and we had fun--not too expensive and you can also bring your own bottle nbo prob). The upstairs 'Hard Rock' agogo at the end of the soi across from the new restaurant is good too. Also have a few decent soapy massage joints up here, one attached directly behind the Thong Tarin Hotel called 'The Golden Rose' or something close. A few rock pubs around that are good with live bands, AND, there is an awesome Tawan Daeng club to the right of the Thong Tarin Hotel pen until 2 with fantastic bands, good food, and cheap drinks (although beware the charge for bringing in cheaper boozes! 200 baht to bring in a bottle of Sang Som, but free to bring in Red Label/Black Label and the cheaper imported whiskies, like 100 Pipers etc. Fucking strange rule that.

Newer hotel is the Surin Majestic which everyone seems to like. Newer German restaurant on Soi Cola, good food and not expensive at all, great German beers, cheeses, homemade cured meats and homemade German breads. SOme great new coffee shops, one near my place and by the Tawan Daeng with free wifi, good beers, foods, coffees and desserts/pastries.

All in all Surin has it all but on a smaller scale. There is a large middle class here and a big Thai/Chinese population. A couple of good Chinese restaurants as well.

Cent

p.s. The Thai men in Surin are usually very friendly, but some can be obnoxious when drunk, and the saying in Surin goes: Drink! Or be a dog!" So there is a lot of drinking up here and some overdo it at times. Just don't flash cash around the bar and ruin it for others, especially the Thai men. They do not do that at all and it is looked down on to be so crass.

Well - that was a fun night out!

Except learning sadly the Farang FC Bar in Sawang DAEN Din is no longer - the owner had a heart attack about a month after our last visit and is now in a coma! Being greeted by his with "I remember YOU" made me feel guilty - he's a nice guy and best wishes to him.

Me and two other Farangs sat their with our Katoeys (was bring a katoey night) and she offered to provide s left over stock which we did our best to drink.

After some Chicken and a variety of nice beer - we check binned and headed off to a place I can't say anymore off - other than it was GREAT fun and I was back there again the next night!
