Guest Posted October 20, 2005 Report Posted October 20, 2005 Talkin theorectical here...........maybe :: I figure the only way to get the g/f back to the UK is to marry her, my question is - does her having past convictions and plenty of jail time (drugs ), make any difference? to her gettin a Visa. Do they even check? And if she did make it to the UK........ would her criminal record in Thailand follow her to the UK as well? She has cleaned up her act up in the last couple of years (I know, I know......... :: : - she could make a fair go of being "respectable" on the paperwork front if needs be (even without a bit of pre planning from yours truly) - just want to know if it is a case that the b#stards won't ever let someone move on from their past. Part of me would fancy the challenge of omitting the visa bit, but I would prefer to bring her over legally :: (If I ever did that is)

pattaya127 Posted October 20, 2005 Report Posted October 20, 2005 Consult some of the law agencies specializing in visas for TGs. usually, TIT works for the farang here, of course for a little baht. A gift to whatever police officer (lawyer will tell you how much) is involved, should get her a clean slate on her status with thai laws. A friend had to do that, was a while ago though, cost him 100$. Funny thing, when he went back to get the "no record of anything" papers duly signed, the cop pointed to his shoes and asked my friend if he liked them. 'twas where the money went, he guessed. True story.

Sounds weird to me that people aren't allowed to travel for having done time, they've been punished so why disallow the travelling privilege, but then again, I know squat about (Thai) laws and legal matters and logic isn't applied always and everywhere. I say try it out, gather all the needed documents and paperwork like any other applicant and see what they have to say. I don't see why she shouldn't be eligible to be granted a VISA like any other person. Applying for a VISA is still a legal act AFAIK so no need to worry about that regardless her past. ::

That's wot I am hoping Given her knowledge of the Thai legal system I guess she will know a bit more about whether wiping the "slate clean" is a practical option....... and how to "approach" this. Obvioulsy will look into this a bit more (if I even go down this route), as it would be nice to hear first hand from someone whose other half had a few convictions. Regarding plan "B", it would make an interesting "trip report" I guess :: Anyone know where I can get a container? (joke ).
Redbaron Posted October 21, 2005 Report Posted October 21, 2005 For Australia (not UK I know, but likely similar) fiance/wife visa application form, there are a LOT of questions about breaking laws in the past, and serving jail time. Whether or not they check up on your answers, or if negative answers affect the ultimate decision to let her in, I don't know
Ckrisg Posted October 22, 2005 Report Posted October 22, 2005 The Uk Visa Application (1 year ago) did not ask any questions regarding criminal convictions. If you are bringing your wife or Fiancee to the UK you sponsor her so they are no questions regarding her background, salary job etc the sponsor has to provide all this info on themselves. So ex Bar girls, bar girls etc have no problems. Getting a Tourist Visa is a totally different situation and background checks usually result in refusal as no reason to return that not the case with yor wife or fiancee. The TG has to provide income etc for Tourist Visa but not for wife/finacee (see above) They may do criminal checks after you submit the application but there is no indication on the form that they will and knowing the UK I doubt we do
