One can see the writing on the wall, but the Thais seem oblivious to it. Is it time to start thinking about living elsewhere??? p.s. Immmigration seems to make up rules on the spot. Every time one goes there, it is a different story!
elef Posted January 27, 2007 Report Posted January 27, 2007 In Cambodia you can get a one month business visa for 25 USD and that you can renew as many times as you want without leaving the country.

Don't know if there's a limit though. Thai Immigration used to ask for 200,000 baht in the bank for a spousal visa. Then Mr T raised it to 400,000. Last year, someone decided bank accounts and property don't matter; you have to have a 40,000 baht/month income. What next? Retirement was 400,000. The T-man raised it to 800,000. Last year they started demanding you have to KEEP the money in the bank account -- for at least 3 months before renewal. Most people I know on retirement visas would live off of the account and top it off before renewal. Not anymore -- never mind that banks here are paying crap interest. One wonders what the Thais are trying to do ... financially ruin the country once again???
elef Posted January 27, 2007 Report Posted January 27, 2007 Yes, and that's the reason why the baht is so strong. :smirk: Actually my opinion is that the absence of a real government and leaving the economy to the market forces is one of the reasons for the strong baht. As a friend said many years ago: it's always bad times for some people, but it's always better to be rich and healthy than poor and sick.

I've never lived there but been there for work SO many times I might as well have done. I could live in KL no problem... or... even better... Langkawi!
zob65 Posted January 27, 2007 Report Posted January 27, 2007 It has already started. Two expats on tourist visas went to Cambodia last and were refused entry back to Thailand due being in excess of 90 days on 30 day visas. Both have gone to KL to try there luck.
