G man Posted March 29, 2007 Report Posted March 29, 2007 Where should I be looking (besides calling the embassy) to learn the best way to get a 14 day visitor visa for the parents of my TGF to visit the USA? They are 50+ years old and hold land in Isaan, so I am guessing it might not be too hard. OTOH, I figure knowing the right approach before contacting the embassy might be helpful. Any ideas? G man
elef Posted March 29, 2007 Report Posted March 29, 2007 I know almost nothing about visas to USA, but more about visas to Schengen area. - Do you and your TGF live in USA or outside? - Are there other family members, (grand-)parents, sons, daughters in Thailand? - Are there other family members in the US? - Do the parents have a business (a farm for example) or are employed in Thailand? You must make probable that there's no risk that they want to stay in USA instead of returning to Thailand. Land papers, taxation papers, employment papers and house papers are of importance.
G man Posted March 29, 2007 Author Report Posted March 29, 2007 The story is that the TGF has a 10 year business visa, but the parents now don't even have a passport. I am hoping that their age coupled with their ownership of a farm (well, some farmland, anyway) will make them not seem so likely to be running away in America. BTW, If anyone is interested in how I got the business visa for TGF, I would be happy to share. The bottom line is that you are spot on target with your analysis: all the embassy cares about is that the visa holder will come back. Anyway, since the parents DON'T work for my company, I know I need a new approach with them. Is there a forum around that might have gone over this already? Any ideas are appreciated. G man
G man Posted March 29, 2007 Author Report Posted March 29, 2007 I should have added that my TGF and I live in Thailand, that no other TGF family members now reside in the US, and that the family does have other members in Thailand. None of this is very compelling evidence that the parents won't skip and run. The strongest hints are that the daughter has gone and returned several times, and that the parents are not so easily employable in the US. It all seems kind of hit-or-miss to me, so I am hoping for some hints from some folks that have had experience with this. Thanks. G man
