Sovereign [2025 Movie]
A father and son who identify as Sovereign Citizens in America, a group of anti-government extremists, find themselves in a standoff with a chief of police that sets off a manhunt. Based on true events, superb slow burning and tragic thriller with strong performances depicting an event where radical ideology and gun culture don't mix. Worth seeing.

Yes quite powerful.

Nick Offerman, should get a gong.  Jacob Tremblay and Dennis Quaid also play well.

I hope that this movie doesn't become a faux call to action, amongst the ignorant.

Mind you there's plenty of movies doing that already.

Do your own research, make up your own mind, they're lying to you.

Who?

The Salt Path [2024 Movie]
A couple lose their home due to financial mismanagement and later discover the husband has been diagnosed with a terminal illness. So they embark on a year long trek around the English south west coast instead! Nice scenery adds to a somewhat depressing tale with an albeit slightly positive ending that seems to take ages to reach. Based on a true story and best selling novel which is by all accounts a better option of the two.

Pair of scammers and liars, she stole 64 k from her employer and they were never really homeless, they had a property in France

I'll watch this, YT is full of these idiots being stoped for driving offences and claiming to be just this, idiotic fantasy. They usually get dragged out of the car and charged with resisting arrest+

Mr Burton [2025 Movie]
The true story of the wild school boy Rich Jenkins, son of a boozy Welsh miner along with an English teacher who recognized his talent, Philip Burton. A moving, yet untold story of how Rich Jenkins takes on his teachers name and became Richard Burton the biggest star Wales has ever produced on the centenary of his birth. Formulaic old school style production of triumph over adversity that works with some very powerful lead performances in a backdrop of humble beginnings without the self indulgent Hollywood razzmatazz that came later. Worth seeing.

This City Is Ours [2025 TV]
A longtime associate of an organized crime family, falls for a woman, prompting him to reevaluate his life and contemplate a future beyond crime. It's been done before, the story ludicrous, but an altogether entertaining mob crime drama with some brilliant character portrayals all with gritty Scouse accents that adds a black comedy feel. Addictive.

The Narrow Road to the Deep North [2025 TV]
The fictional story of an army surgeon whose short but forbidden affair with his uncle's wife sustains and haunts him through his darkest days in a Thai-Burmese prisoner of war camp in WWII. Australian adaptation of the Booker prize-winning novel spanning three timelines is a visceral, passionate drama. One of the years better TV mini series, worth seeing.

28 Years Later [2025 Movie]
A group of survivors of the rage virus live on a small island. When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors. As zombie horror flicks go this is as good as it gets. Danny Boyle at the top of his game here with a wonderful bloody gore-fest and an extremely controversial ending that will lead to a sequel next year.

Mississippi Burning  1988 American crime thriller

Gene Hackman and Willem Dafoe play 2 FBI guys, with differing styles investigating the disappearance of 3 ciivil rights guys, in Mississipi.

For folk like me who grew up in a place with by and large no racial problems, it's an eyeopener and almost a documentary explanation of where the attitudes of the Stephen Millers of the world come from.

I would like to think that the world has moved on since then. But sadly, I don't think it has in many places, see Gaza.

Great movie.

There have been quite a few movies and documentaries made about this incident. The “freedom riders” and the voter registration people were literally risking their lives, some paid with their lives. For more on the time and subject, check out MLK, Ghosts of Mississippi and Selma.  I was a kid when all that was going on, but it had people (white mostly) all up in arms, scared to death at what might happen if black people voted or had equality etc…. If you want to get an idea of where some current attitudes come from, watch some episodes of “All in the Family”  these people actually did exist and they bred the current generation of racists… The main character in AITF, was Archie Bunker, he typified the American attitude of “…what the hell are “THEY” always complaining about? I never had it so good…”
